Title: Aftermarket Underdrive Pulley
Post by: TGP Nick on May 30, 2007, 05:16:58 PM
Is there anyone besides FFP that makes underdrive pullies for our 3.1's?  If not, how much did FFP pullies cost when new?
Thanks

Will this ^ work?  Even if it fits, 25% underdrive seems high.... would the accessories be okay with this kind of underdrive??

So.... if I'm understanding this correctly- the OEM pulley has a rubber seal on it and the FFP one doesn't, causing the bottom end to be unstable, hurting the crank bearings?  correct me if I'm wrong- just trying to understand this...

So-- so what your really paying for is more problems, you really ain't gaining nothing. you're just trading off is all your doing.

Untill something substantial showing me a full gain comes forward, I really don't see myself wasting money like that :deal:.

Now like the  FFP motor mounts and their coil-overs, that to me is a 100% gain no loss. but I guess if you have your heart

sold on it there ain't no stopping ya. Try-em out and let me know Nick. jimmy :thumb:

Meh now after what you have told me, I don't really wanna try it.... espacially with all the problems I've been having with it lately.... thats all I need is a thrown out crank bearing! :icon_rolleyes:

People have been running FFP UD pulleys for thousands of miles with NO ill effects.

Not to mention 60* V6's are internaly balanced, unlike the 90* V6's that rely on the harmonic balancer to balance vibrations from the engine.

After re-reading all that again   I have a question: do the OEM crank pullies on our cars have harmonic balancers or ANY kind of balancers whatsoever??  I always thought they were just pure metal, with nothing else in there- no balances, weights, etc....  please correct me if I'm wrong

its just a cast iron pulley.

So, if there is no rubber balancer or harmonic balancer on them, why is everyone freaking out?  The FFP pulley for example should be no different, other than being lighter and slightly smaller.... any argument against this?

I dont see the big issue with this on these motors, but if someone knows otherwise, please chime in.
