Title: more power
Post by: boost freak on June 04, 2007, 08:47:07 PM
ok ive been studying up on these cars for the last couple of months.  and  was wanting to see what your guys   ways were since you guys stick with the  stock 3.1. were everyone tells me to do the 3400 swap.  i have a 91 sunbird. and i got everything to turbo it from teh grand prix, and much more. but i wanted to know more about the computer, sicne i have a rpinned harness and i run a chipped tgp computer. so  can we gain power from a ftermarket cam? because i heard the computer want give your car its for potenial because of the computer?  well then who here has went standalone? is anyone running a mega squirt on these  cars?

what so way ways to put out more power with these motor and turbo. well i have a bigger turbo t3/t4. heres a couple of somewhat old pics.

i stuck with the stock motor and  netted a 13.6@108MPH, and 302 whp/409wtq (gt2871r)

jud on the board (sleeperred90tgp) has a 3400 top end with a 3500 and a bunch of other untold mods, he calls "a bunch of bunches" and it a 13.558 @ 102 IIRC (gt3076r)

im running the moates piggy back ststem aswell as the tuner pro on my laptop WB02 ect ect ect.

i dont know if anyone is using the megasquirt on these cars, but if so i guess they arent helping them much as me and jud are the 2 fastest cars right now, although i will be blowing him out of the water soon enough

so what do you guys do about cams, then? i hear some people say its a waste because of the computers? is that true. i have like 4 chips that the guy gave me.. i now ones a top gun ship whatever that is. and then i got 3 other chips. the guy that had it before me ran a 13.9 at 8psi in his cavy with bad 60ft times. he said with a good launch he can probably get into mid 13s. but he said he was going to turn up the boost. with the chip or whatever but he went standalone now. but said he was having problems with it right now. but anyways just wanted to know about the cams. because when i go to put everything on i wanted to know if i should go ahead and though in a cam or not. :icon_twisted: thanks.

The computer that controls the car is not the choke point. The tune that is on the chip is the choke point. The Jeff M as well as the stock chip fueling is incredibly RICH at wide open throttle.

Unless you use an incredibly oversized cam the chances of the computer not being able to control idle is slim. The H260 cam is a nearly drop in replacement for what the stock chip will use for idle. The fun begins when you get into upper "no load" and "part load" applications. If you do not know how to tune forget it.

The Moates Emulator is not a Piggy Back system. It is merely an emulator. Piggy Back systems run in series to intercept the stock outputs to things like fueling and spark to change what the computer has outputted. Some also intercept in coming signals to fool the computer into thinking the parameters it sees are correct.

If you want power from these that is considerably more than stock you can make your own chip or I sell them.

If you want Cuntzie and Jud power than you must change the way the motor flows air, fuels that increased air, and also change the characteristics of the stock turbo (sounds like you have already upgraded there).

You have a 6 cylinder air pump. Once the air pump can breath properly, then you need to fuel it. Once you are fueling it properly then you need to correctly time the "fire" which accelerates the airpumps ability with proper spark timing.

More boost does not equal more power!
More fuel does not equal more power!

Efficiently flowing the air and spark timing makes more power!

the #10 lobe seems to go out on these cars, since its the last thing to get oil.
