Ok, so those of you who know, I've gotten rid of my '93 Camaro. I took her into the local Ford dealership when I saw a car I've been pining over for a while. We worked the deal down to my Camaro, plus $100 and $80 for transfer fees and taxes and such. I got, in return, a 1995 Taurus SHO. I love these cars!
Mine has the 3.2 Liter Dual Overhead Cam engine, creating an underrated 220 horses. The intake was very recently redone, as well as the valve cover gaskets, nd transmission serviced; all receipts to boot. This car has had 3 previous owners, the first being a rental car company. I was slightly turned off by that fact, until the dealer looked up who it was, and it was an "upper class rental car facility"; ok, so rich people, but why rent a Taurus?? Oh well, whatever. The second owner was a kid my age, who drove it like a SHO lol. He had sold the car to an older guy, an ex-hippie who went to Woodstock '69 (smelt the other kind of smoke if you follow), who was left with the problems the kid had created. All records for both the last two previous owners.
Automatic Transmission (ATX), tan leather interior (which I guess is kinda rare on SHO's?), Power Windows, Locks, Mirrors, DUAL Power Seats, no sunroof but oh well...extremely clean interior. Carpets look new, and the rear seats look damn near mint, like no one has sat in them. No rust, a few scratches, and some rock chips that had been painted. Clean title, although the front clip has been replaced. Not the hood though, so my guess is if it WAS in an accident, it wasn't bad enough to report to the insurance, and that's why it doesn't show up on the Carfax. Has the keyless entry pad on the door, but I don't know the code; I'm trying to figure out how to program it, though. The car is overall, very clean, although nowhere near mint. Various interior pieces, like the dash vents, need attention. She has brand spanking new tires though! :icon_biggrin:
I think I came out ahead on the deal. I got a car I've wanted for years, and since my Camaro was rear wheel drive and too nice to drive in the winter, I got what I wanted! This will be my little sleeper project, spending a bit of my money on getting her fixed up right. It has tint on the rear window and rear side windows, but it's the old blue tint; I want to have it tinted to the legal State Law max all around. I've seen them like that and they look nice! I have been pondering getting the cowl hood for it; they're cheap enough and look nice, but I would lose the functionability of the hood support struts. Oh well, all things to worry about later. She runs perfect, shifts excellent, and is very nice...exactly what I wanted. Here's the link to my photobucket account with the pics! The lighting totally sucked and made the car look so damn dull! I had just waxed the hood and roof before the pics, but since a storm was about to happen I didn't finish it.
Ok, so I know some people don't like Ford's, and I don't blame you. I don't really either, but SHO's and Stangs have always been my weak spot for the company. So, if you have to give me crap about the Ford aspect, do so quickly lol, and let's get it over with. :icon_wink:
Let me know what you think guys!
nice! I love the Yamaha powered SHO's.
The few fords I have had to take the door panel off that had the keypad on had the code on the module inside the door. I think the owners manual should show you how to use the code.
Tim
Thanks for the tip! I didn't get an owner's manual with it, but I have been doing some online searching and some say the code's also printed on the trunk lid, somewhere under the hood, and under the dash on a computer module. So far, the first 2 were a no, but I'll check the module.
Awesome man! Love the new car! :icon_cool:
Iv always liked those SHOs there very cool cars. Dont forget the timing chain likes to go as quick as a timing belt!
If you press the 8 and the 0 key at the same time, you will lock the doors. Have your freind/wife press those buttons while you are in the trunk. You should here a module click when those are pressed. Thats the keyless module. On that module should be a code for your doors. Good Luck..
Yea its in the trunk. When you pop the trunk open, on the drivers side, there is a black box 4x5 in with two wire harnesses. It should have a 5 digit code. Thats the code.
You might be lucky. I have a Huge Maff meter (CnL maybe) and J3 modual for that car. I got it off a 94-95 automatic SHO too.
Hye guys thanks for all the tips! I finally found the code yesterday, just had to wiggle around a bit in the trunk, but sure enough, it was printed on the unit! The car runs so nice! Once it hits 4K RPM's, she opens so nice and ROARS! I wish I could describe it, but you have to ride in one to understand it! Still not match for the TGP...I find it kinda funny that guys on the SHO site are bragging about getting into the 15 second brackets, and they came with 220 stock horses...the TGP hasn't been in a 15 second bracket since I got it! LOL! (BTW, without having a track nearby, I'm just guessing...although Dan did claim it hit 15.2 before I got it....we all know the work done since)
SHOs are Anchors with less torque than the turbo 3.1. :icon_eek: 190-200lbs vs 240-270lbs tq. The lightest fatest were the 89 SHOs. No fluff, just Buff  .
I had two. Both 90s. One black and then latte a Gray one. The Gray one didn't come with a EGR from the factory. :icon_question: Thats crazy. THe Gray one was the fastest. I had installed a home brewed Ram Air and made a WHOLE world of a difference. Knocked a whole SECOND off my E.T. 16.9 to a 15.8 on a cheap "undersized" clutch. I used to go up to 100mph in 3RD :icon_exclaim:. Still needed 4th and 5th :icon_eek:
THeyre not drag cars. They're more of a top speed, autocross car.
Ok, so it's been slightly over a week since I've owned the SHO, and I have a slight problem (P.S., can't get it to the shop with my work schedule this week)...It's happened a few times now, where I'll be driving the car for a while, come to a stop, leave it parked for a couple minutes, between 3 and 5 minutes, and it slowly kills. Kinda like it loses RPM's, but I'm not sure. No warning lights, the temp gauge stays normal; and when I try to start it back up, it sputters and dies, unless I leave it sit for a few minutes...then all is fine until it happens again. Now, I've noticed that it USUALLY happens when I've ben driving for a while, and with the SHO's the engine bays get goddamn HOT; they've all been this way in my experience. Now as I said, the gauge stays normal, so I'm not sure.
I haven't run a diagnostic on it yet. And it doesn't do it all the time, so I'm confused. I was thinking if it was ignition, wouldn't it happen all the time? And why would it just lose RPMs and kill? I'm completely lost, and I have until Friday afternoon to figure this out, because Saturday morning, I leave for a weeklong vacation to the Badlands. Would anyone have any ideas? TurboGTU, any insights?
Start with basic tune up stuff. Fuel filter being the primary thing, and maybe a MAF sensor. If its getting cooked under there, it could have some dieing electrics inside.
Try to test the fuel pressure on the fuel rail. IT could have a tired pump or cloging fuel filter like mentioned. Should be around 32-35psi with the vacume hose off with the engine running.
Clean the Idle motor.
Check the Throttle Position Sensor. If theres a dead spot on it, it will act like it wanto shut off or WILL shut off. IF the dead spot is around the closed throttle position it won't start. Try ohm ing the TPS and check for flat lines.
Also check the Relay box above the fan and under the lable cover. Some of those relays can go bad. by not letting the ECM or the fuel pump work.
