Title: Look what just rolled off the car hauler at my shop....
Post by: TGPilot on June 25, 2007, 11:32:37 AM
So I have been speaking to someone here lately about a special car...at least to me. Some things will be done to the car for the owner and I am looking forward to making it happen for him.

Enjoy...

Wow!!  That's the first roll cage I've seen in a W-body!  Is that the pikes peak racer?  What does it have under the hood?  Thanks for sharing!

Yes that is the Pikes Peak prototype car.

3.1L V6 under the hood with the "goodies" that should have been on our cars...but made too much power as far as GM was concerned.

Awesome!! More pictures are a must! How many miles are on it?
I've gotta get my ass out there to check that thing out sometime soon!

HOLY COW!! :icon_eek: LUKE?? How have you been man?

I am in the middle of an LS1 build and 2 waiting to come in, so as soon as they are complete it will be put on the dyno to see what she is doing. It is being put back to a more "streetable/stock" format. The cage is coming out, fuel cell out, stock fuel tank in, right rear seat put back in, carpet layed back down, etc. Most likely tweaking the chip to allow it to be a bit more streetable also. I took a test drive to see if there was tranny issues or driveability issues and I will say one thing...it definitely has more power than any TGP/TSTE car I have ever driven. My wife's TSTE is now a 14.1 1/4 mile car and I think my wife's car would be at least 4 cars behind from start to finish.

The thing I am curious about is finding a stock TGP/TSTE cluster and seeing if it is plug and play.

Wow! That's like the holy grail around here! After all this time. The pikes Peak racer in the flesh. We are counting on you Ken to document this thing.

I want some pictures of the intercooler(and everything else on the car  ;) ) that car uses(isn't it supposed to be water to air?). Also curious to what kinda power it makes at the moment.

EDIT: Can the front seat go further back than it is? It almost looks like the cage is in the way, but it's hard to tell from that angle for sure.

Kenny, why are you of all people letting him/her destroy the car like that????????????????????????   :icon_frown:  It's not a damn junkyard TGP... they just spent $13,500 on that, and now they are going to take away basically everything that made that car what it was, a piece of history, all I have to say is shame on the owner for doing this to such a car.   :nono: :motz2: :dunno: :ugone2far:  :leaving:

I've got 3 TGP's here they could have taken for 1/10th of what they spent on that car.  And they wouldn't have to destroy a damn prototype.   :icon_rolleyes:

For those that haven't seen it in person, it's a damn marvel.  And absolute beauty.  I was hoping to actually buy it some day, but alas, now it's being destroyed.

Ok Jay...take a deep breath! WOOOOSAAAAAAH.

Mainly the only thing changing on the car to hurt it's appearance is the rollcage is being removed. The fuel cell is coming out of the back and a means to fill the tank normally. Carpet is hitting the floor (which was in the trunk) and the rear seat is going back in. How is that hurting anything? Plus this is the thing...he owns the car. He has come to me knowing what I know about the TGP/TSTE cars to help him enjoy the car rather than it being held in behind ropes. Trust me this car will not be harmed in anyway by the current owner...if anything it will be appreciated and driven some.

Kuntzie...the rollcage will have to be cut out by the looks of things...but it might be possible to remove it in one piece when I get time to look at it closer.

mfewtrail...it has the EXACT same design intercooler as what we have on our cars. There is a billy tank for the coolant level...but the intercooler is obviously true to ours. The radiator is obviously custom made...but true in pre-form to our Blackstones.

Yes guys this car is the "holy grail" to our TGPs...but there is not a huge difference in the setup like I had heard. I will do what I can to document the car...but this is not my car and need to get full permission from the owner before anything is talked about.

One cool thing I saw...the ECM has a McLaren Motors sticker on it! ;)

I guess I really know what the car is, and there's no way I'd touch a thing.  I'd kick it just like it is.  Hell, I'd take it back to Pikes Peak and run it again.

kenny id still take it if you had to cut it in a couple of places... (hopefully on the welds) what kind of money would you want for it
Title: Re: Look what just rolled off the car hauler at my shop....

Kuntzie...I would have to get permission from the owner to take possesion first. Then get an idea of how to get it out cleanly. It was obviously built in the car because it goes up solid clear to the roof line and out the two rear speaker ports to the rear in the trunk. It will be my time (labor), fair price for the cage itself, and then the shipping. In the end it may be less if you had someone fab it for you where you are. I can take some pictures of the structure for you to have something to go by if you want.

Kenny said it was a bit faster than his TSTE, but that doesn't make it "insane" IMO. This prototype supposedly has a race built transaxle, is lightened, the engine was sent to a performance engine builder(so it could have internal work that we don't know about), etc. I'm sure the tune on it varies a lot from any of our cars since it has a fuel cell and was likely run on higher octane fuel since it was a race car...

EDIT: What else has been done to the TSTE to make it run a 14.1 Kenny(was this at CO elevation)?

The Prototype compressor housing has .80 A/R on it. I am not going to pull it to take measurements of the turbine housing so forget about that.

The TSTE has my "Fun" chip in it. The fuel injectors I think are going bad...but nothing special done to it. Yes that was at Bandimere.

Isn't .80 the same as our stock ones, at least according to the info Chris A. and Shawn(GnatGoSplat) had listed for years.

"Garrett T-25, water cooled
Model #: TB2528
Part #: 465939-2
CHRA #: 431876-29
Wastegate: Vacuum, actuated by ECM-controlled solenoid
A/R Ratios: 0.68 Turbine; 0.80 Compressor "

is the crossover setup the same as the production TGP?  How about serp belt assembly?  What's so different about the powertrain, can you divulge that information?

Kenny, would you be able to/allowed to make a copy of the existing chip in the protoype and duplicate it?

Well next week it will be on the dyno. I will let you all know what the power outputs are. I will also be looking at the chip to see what all McLaren Engines did. I have been balls to the wall busy in the shop and the owner of this car is not in any hurry to get it back just yet.

I did finally get the roll cage out...damn good construction...too bad it had to come out is 6 pieces.

I have been super busy in the shop. This is a low priority project authorized by the client. I finally got the stock fuel tank on Tuesday and need to get an exhaust system for it as well.

It was horrid! If I remeber tomorrow I will pull the graphs. Even putting in my tune did not increase power. I think nearly 15 years of sitting did not help her!

The owner of the car is talking to me now about building a VIN V block with a GT3076 turbo, water to air intercooler, meth injection, and a few other goodies.
