Title: rpms drop real low when slowing down (got an idea)?
Post by: 1trucavalier on October 22, 2002, 09:54:52 AM
when i got to slow down when the car is warmed up the rpms drop to 1000 where it supposed to stay but then sometimes it will go all the way down if i don't blip the throttle. At cold start or while the car is cold the rpms will not drop off when i slow only when warmed up.  I  just can't figure this one out.   Also if i let it sit and idle i will notice the boost guage go up and the rpm down and the rpm up and the boost down like a seesaw wtf!!!!  You fix 3 things and then there is something else.   Soon i am going to have a brand new old car.  Could the slowing down thing be associated with the transmission not disengaging or down shifting giving a load on the motor at low rpm? Maybe the vaccume modulator?  The transmission shifts fine.

My car when coming to a stop used to drop real low in rpms too.  It felt like the TCC was not disengaging, but my tranny went boom so I don't have to worry about that anymore.

About the idle...do you have a Jeff M chip.  My car used to do that even with the new x-over.  My car used to shake real bad at idle in drive because of the poly dogbones.  I got a TopGun 160 chip and the car idled like a dream afterwards, and the idle went up just enough that the vibration from the poly dogbones went away.

If you come see me I'll let you test drive a chip so you can SEE how much it will make a difference!

there is a chip that fixes some of GM's inconsistances as far as spark tables and fuel maps that cause certain driveability issues and or overheating, idle, shift points etc....  also if you want to past the 9.5psi safely up to 14.5psi you should get the chip.  I suggest you read the site (engine section for CHIPS)  then contact IDBEAST.  check out this site belongs to Chris A.  nice mods which i don't think one excedes $100 and can be done with basic tools.

Sorry to bring up an old topic, but my car used stall when stopping, mostly in my neighborhood when the car had not been running long.  I got a new battery a few months ago and my car hasn't done it since.

well i have replaced every single sensor in my car along with a 950cc battery.   I just about narrowed it down to TCC switch or crank sensor.  Its not the injectors, coils, spark plugs, wires, tps, aic, etc......
