well, it's time to let her go. i've had the car for 7+ years and have done so much to it. that car is such a big part of me it's going to be really sad to see someone else driving it. some of you may remember i had tried to sell it to one of my friends last spring, but he totally fell through. since he was a friend of mine i let him give me $500 down, take the car with the understanding that the remaining $1500 he owed me was to be paid within a month. didn't happen - so i promptly took the car back. in the meantime he chearfully tells me "dude i had the Cutty up to 148mph!!" :icon_rolleyes: i believe him too, and FWIW that speedo is spot on thanks to Kenny's tune. not to mention he snapped an axle clean in half the first week he had it, and managed to break the O2 wires and stripped out one of the holes for the thermostat housing. when i got it back the Getrag leaked fluid really bad. kind of a bad deal to say the least - and no i have no intention of giving him his $500 back! thankfully no major damage, but still, what an asshole.
well anyway, i'm in the middle of fixing the car now. my friend who "tried" to buy the car did replace the axle and O2 sensor, but i am i the middle of replacing the LIM, just bought another 282 from stockgp, the 282 that was in the car is still just fine; it just needs to be resealed. i also have to buy some new jounce bumpers for the front struts.
my new boss is buying the car from me and giving me $2000 in full later this week (before i even have the car ready!). he's also paying for all of the gaskets and stuff to get the car ready again. he wants it bad....like really bad. of course, his current car is on its last legs. it's a TwinCam 5-speed Saturn coupe. i did a compression check on it the other night and two cylinders had 175psi, one had 125psi, and one had absolutely no compression at all.
so i found a '91 Dodge Spirit R/T. 115,xxx miles, very clean interior, NO rust, and no body damage except it needs a new front bumper cover. i already found a replacement front bumper cover for cheap locally. he only wants $800 for it. has a newly rebuilt motor but the turbo is shot. thankfully, my brother Jerm (who also has a '91 Spirit R/T but his is red) has a perfectly good stock R/T turbocharger (a Garrett T3) that he's going to sell me. hope to have it running and driving for around $1000. it really has way more potential than my Cutlass does due to the aftermarket available. btw, there were only 1208 Spirit R/T's made in '91 - and this one is (was) white which makes it one of only 434 or something like that (the red Spirit R/T's were much more common). it has the bulletproof Getrag A-568 5-speed so i guess this will be my new "TurboSedan" hah. i've been driving my brother's R/T for the past month and i love it. for those that aren't familiar with the R/Ts they have a 2.2L DOHC 16-valve Lotus designed cylinder head, come with factory forged pistons, rods and crank. 3-bar cals readily available, Quaife LSD.....yeah :) my brother's car has an OBX LSD (basically a Quaife knockoff) and it helps soooo much.
only bad thing about the car (besides needing a new bumper cover and turbo) is that the previous owner painted it blue and it isn't a very good job. it looks decent enough, but not professional by any means.
lots of mods planned for my Regal GS too. i have alot of parts waiting here in my closet already - new KYB AGX adjustable struts, new SSC lowering springs, new KYB strut mounts, ZZP offset poly dogbones, and a new JMB FWI intake. after i get the money for the Cutlass later this week i'm hoping i have enough to order a ZZP XP HOT cam...either that or SLP headers. not sure which yet. i have a dentist bill i have to take care of, or else i'd be ordering both! anyway, i'll be modding the Regal first and basically just getting the R/T on the road and driveable for now.
as far as TGPs go, i really think i'll get another one someday. sometimes i think i'd really be up for trading my Regal GS for a black TGP coupe or a TSTE, but i doubt that will happen. i just live too far away from anywone else.
haven't posted much lately since my TGP powered Cutlass has been sitting for awhile, but i imagine my boss will probably become a member here soon. hope you guys can help him out if he joins up.
later
You'll probably end up buying it back later. ;) I wonder if your getrag has done the same thing that Curtis posted about before. I remember him mentioning that he had a hard time keeping the case sealed up on his high hp car.

yeah i don't doubt that one bit. after all i sold my old Lebaron GTS Turbo to Bossman429, then i just "had" to have it back a year later, but then within a month of having it back i sold the GTS to sl3196. thankfully Dan takes really good care of that GTS (that's funny, i just realized the GTS title is still in my name LOL). i am pretty sure his GTS is even faster than his modded '00 GTP now! i know it would rip my Cutty a new one if i were to race him (though he
is pushing 20psi). i admit i am very sentimental when it comes to my cars....ecspecially the ones i spent tons of time wrenching on. they are my babies. so it could happen i suppose...but really, it is time for something new!! i know i will miss it but well, that's how it goes.
i too think the problem with my Getrag is exactly what Curtis experienced with his. all of that torque tends to twist the case? or something. i don't know. it still has extremely clean fluid, shifts perfectly, no grinding or funny noises to speak of at all....it just leaks between the bellhousing side and the other side of the case.
well it's sold. i just got the $2000 cash from him.

we hav noe other 5 spd turbo sedans!? :( i all alones.
haha! i'm hoping to have another 5-speed Turbo Sedan by the end of the week :) it's just not a W :)
did you get the R/T? if so got any pictures? will you be stopping by td.com if you get it? I dropped a 15 psi cal in my TIII can't wait for the cool weather it just doesn't like 90+ degree days.
