Title: Newbie from Central MO - Also ex-turbo dodge guy
Post by: ShelbyCSX432 on October 04, 2007, 09:10:35 AM
Hello everyone. Just got referred to this forum from the other W-body forum and I have to say, alot to look at. I currently own a Shelby CSX, but it has been sold. I got to looking at the market and found a Mclaren gran prix that seems to be in pretty good shape. I've been around the turbo dodge world now for years, but these GM turbo cars seem to be even more different than I thought they would. I'll be picking up the gran prix next week and I am looking forward to modifying it soon. I will probably have a lot of questions real soon as in what to do performance wise. I've been reading a bunch of the threads, but alot of this goes past me just because I know nothing of the cars. So, bear with I guess. Great to meet you guys.

By the way, Are there any members out there in Missouri?

I think there are a few TGP owners in Missouri, but I'm not 100% sure

Did you buy somebody's car off the forums??  Any pictures of the soon to be your car?

I'm pretty sure he's been on here before. I know he lives in Dallas Center Iowa, and his name is Dennis. He seems like a great, strait forward guy. Talked to him for quite a while the other night. The tricky thing is that I can't get the gran prix til I get rid of my shelby car next week. Thats where I'm getting the money. Hopefully he holds it long enough for me.

Also, thanks for the welcome. Hopefully by this time next week I'll be a GM guy as well

Hey glad to see you made it to this forum! My name over here is different, but I'm Krenzy on the w-body forum. Iowa huh? not too far from me! I'm just up the border in MN. If you have pictures or a link with the information about the car, please post up! Ask as many questions as you can!

I am a Missouri member as well, just outside st Louis. With a Red TGP. Welcome and enjoy.

A more local forum to Missouri is www.stlclubgp.com. Althou none of the members, except me, own a TGP. There are quite a few knoledgeable guys there. All of them deal with the second gens, but some have turboed theres.

I'm still a turbo dodge guy, but only until the middle of this week. I'm seling my CSX, and taking the money from it and going to a turbo Gran Prix. hopefully I'm not digging myself into a deeper hole. the Car I'm looking at looks promising. I Travel a lot, and I'm looking forward to the Auto tranny. All the power options will be nice as well.

Explain . . . This isn't something I want to hear when I'm picking up my car in 3 days.

I don't see why it wouldnt be, i mean unless you're modding the crap out of it. If it's left mostly stock and maintained well, I don't see why it wouldn't be as good as any other grand prix (or w-body for that matter) as a daily.

but then again, I haven't been able to drive mine yet, either

My TGP is my daily driver in the dry months and I love it.  It needs a complete tuneup though since it has all original parts on it (except injectors and x-over), but I can still pull off 22 MPG city driving.  But then again I don't drive it much- I only put 4,000 miles on it since I bought it.

I DD'd my 89 TGP from 98k all the way up to 157k with only basic maintenace, 2 sets of plugs, one set of wires, 2 oxygen sensors, but one was Bosch so that doesn't count.  I also replaced the cross over and some sensors when I did that.  Went through one ICM and 2 sets of brakes.  It never quit on me once.

Hell it would probably start right now if it had good gas in it. It just red lines at 54 mph cause there is no 3rd or OD.  But that's my fault, I ran it hard after I got the TG160.  Even then it lasted two full summers.
