Title: car falls flat on face HELP!!!!
Post by: dogginred90 on October 21, 2007, 08:34:22 AM
I need some help guys. My car doesn't want to run the way it should. When you drive it normal it runs good but when you get on the gas abit it seems like it falls on its face let off the gas a little and she starts to go.I have changed everything that i can think of here is the list. O2, map, IAC. TPS, ignition module, coils,MAT,coolant temp, turbo rebuilt, plugs, wires, injectors. Here is the history of the car from what i was told. Before I bought it 2 years ago it was wrecked and sat for 3 years. And then it sat after that for another year till I got it running. Another one brought back from the dead(almost). I need you guys help to finish. Thank you.

Have you checked for fuel pressure readings or vacuum leaks?

Is there a flat spot on your throttle, TPS installed correctly?   how's the idle ?  Agree w/ TGed check fuel and vaccum leaks, should have like 18 # of vaccum.

sorry guys forgot to add fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter changed also. had garage put in on scan tool he says everything looked god but it still doesnt move the way it should. Could it be a wastegate issue? second tps installed first one made my car idle at 3000 rpm. Thanks for your help

Could be bad injectors... mine did the same thing with bad stock injectors and wouldn't even run past 1/2 throttle.

Does the car have the stock air intake setup or a K&N filter installed? Is the computer chip stock or something else? Does the stock boost gauge register boost when you romp on the throttle? Any known driveability problems besides this one?

are you getting into boost before it falls on its face or does it do this before boost? What plugs did you install and what gap did you set them to.

ok here it goes I have boost per the stock gauge. Accel u grove plugs msd wires, yellow top injectors (new),stock air filter. other driving problems are car vibrates at some cruising speeds not all the time. Have put 4 grand into this car and all i want is to drive it. oh yeah stock chip for now. i guess the wastegate has nothing to do with it . oh by the way at WOT after about 10 seconds it seems to pick up speed like it build up enough boost or something. I dont much about turbos(i wish I knew more. THANKS AGAIN GUYS. I will have pics before and after soon. It was ugly when I got it.

How many miles are on the car. Has the fuel pump ever been changed that you know of.. Not a big fan of accel plugs either. Are they gaped correctly?? If it was mine I would put stock plugs in it gapped at .032   I to know what it feels like to have a ton of $$ wrapped up in a car, so be patient. It's probably someting simple..   :icon_lol:

gap is at .40
The gap should be tighter than that. The boost could be blowing out the spark. Just a guess

Have you ever done a compression check on the motor?  Also a vacuum check?  Check all intercooler clamps and couplers? How old is the lower intake gasket?

compression check was about 105 on every cylinder if i am remember correctly i did that awhile ago. I was thinking about the lower intke gasket. I had a 2.8 that had a bad gasket and it was sucking air.So I am going to change that this weekend when I get home. Havent done a vacuam check. How do I do that?I will also tighten up my gap to .032. THANKS AGAIN GUYS

Do you have the factory cat converter on it? Mufflers?

Do you see black smoke from behind the car (in your rear view mirror ;) ) when it falls down?

Regap your plugs to .030 for the factory chip.

When you pull your plugs read them...black (too much fuel)...white (too little fuel)...golden brown/tan perfect burn.

fuel pressure is good.
Remember pressure is not volume. You can have good fuel pressure at idle but when your getting on it, It could be low..

no smoke and plugs look good. I will regap the plugs when I get back home. Exhaust is all new including cat. I will replace the fuel pump if the plugs dont fix it. Thanks again guys

Put in a set of R42LTS plugs...to hell with the aftermarket double V split wasted maxi power super spark plugs! ;) They do nothing what so ever for turbo vehicles.

With the HOT Tune I recommend a 0.028 gap. You might be like a few others and get away with a 0.030...but the boost levels and increased combustion chamber pressure with the more agressive timing curve will most likely blow out the spark if it is more than 0.028.

Let me know when you are ready... ;)
