Title: TRANSMISSION ISSUE

The main reason for me pulling my engine is to get the transmission out.  I have an unusual problem with my 4t60.  At WOT the vehicle will pull strong till about 4000 rpm and all of the sudden the car will stop accelerating but the RPM's will go up and stay at 5000 RPM. If you let off the car will grab and change gears. As long as you stay at WOT the car will not accelerate but the RPMS will be at MAX. Does not do this as bad or at all when cold. Only does this under heavy load and WOT.  :icon_confused: Any thoughts. I am leaning toward a sprag or T/C problem and I subsequently plan to rebuild the transmission and replace the converter. However, I would like to have an idea what might be wrong before I start overhauling this tranny so that I will have and idea what I am looking for. :icon_wink:

You know, this sounds familiar to an issue my Taurus SHO had...overdrive went out on it. All of a sudden one day, no warning, it just didn't work. I would be driving along and it should have been shifting, but it took it's sweet time, then grabbed the next gear, kicking, and if I gave it WOT, it just revved and coasted...I sincerely hope that isn't what's wrong with your TGP, but they sound alike.

MINE ONLY HAS THIS PROBLEM ON THE 1-2 SHIFT.

kinda sounds like you have a loose TV cable

  yea like Nick said, try to resort to the easiest item first ,then if thats not it then resume back to the worst case senario. Me personally with what happen to mine was close ( if not the same) to yours,  mine would not shift to second at all. So I got tired of spending a shit load of money into a transmission that I knew that I would tear up once I increase the power of the TGP
