Title: Officially Licensed TGP badges
Post by: flybynite on October 23, 2007, 07:11:33 AM
I have been working on getting some new TGP badges for my red car. So I decided to call the same place that did all the emblems on my buddy's 89 TTA and numerous other cars I've helped with over the years. He made a few calls and went through all the red tape and GM said he could do it. These badges will look and apply the same way as the originals. I mean EXACT reproductions. All he needs to get started are 1 red and 1 black emblem in decent shape. I all ready have a red 1 but I will need a black 1 (I am not taking a badge off my black TGP) You will not get your old emblem back but instead you will receive 1 new black emblem in it's place. Also he was wondering about how many to make as this will probably be a 1 time thing for now. So those of you that would like new emblems for you TGP post up or send me a pm. This is a wonderfull thing for the TGP community. Nobody makes restoration parts for these cars. These badges will be the first that I know of Licensed by GM and not some crappy knock off. To me this is a big deal, Just think if they did good, and all the other aftermarket stuff that could be released for the TGP. Like replacement hoods,rims,louvers.etc...  Anybody interested??

I would like a set of 3 in red for my GPSE since I'm planning to drop the TGP kit I have in my garage in!  I don't have a black on to make a pattern from though.  Do we have any idea how much they would cost?

No price is set in stone, but we are assuming around $50 each.

If they make them like the originals with the brass backing for $50/ea....that is a frikkin bargain.  :icon_eek:

Adam let me know if there is a bulk discount. I may buy "some"  ;) of each color to have here for those who need them in the future.

Anyway we could have the design for these converted into decals, also? I assume he will be graphing the design to a computer, therefore, why not apply it to another product?

Like a sticker decal? I could have that done for about 15 bucks or so. I could check into it if you want.

I will head up to the shop today, and find out more, costs, and that type of thing. Its a quality shop, and they do custom deals, and graphics. I will post, so that everyone knows in another thread, dont want to steal any fire from this one.

Guys let's keep this thread on the solid NON-CHINSY way of getting your badges replenished! Make a new thread if you wish for the "decals".

Thanks,

Thanks for the offer, but a member of the forums sent me a black one last week.   :icon_biggrin:    I have all ready sent the samples out. He will make a black and a red one and send them to GM for approval. Once approved he can start making them in larger quantities. I will keep you guys posted...

Hey guys, these emblems are close to being released. GM has given us a 3 year run with a total of 300 emblems being made. With the cost of tooling and GMs cut the emblems will be $80.00 each with a set costing $220. This is a little more than the expected price, but that what it takes to make them perfect (like the originals). These emblems will come in a GM restoration bag with a GM part #. They will come in several colors, not just black and red. They will look and apply the same as the originals.

The only other color I've seen is white. ALL emblems will have a gold color backing. At first all emblems will be red or black. Maybe a couple of white ones floating around to.    If there is a need for other colors they can be special ordered and at the most will take a couple of weeks to see them at your door step.

O.k guys these emblems are ready for sale...      Go to     https://pontiworld.com.au/gtaemblems/product_info.php?products_id=91        to check them out and to place your orders.  They are waiting on the final license stuff to work out and that should be complete within a few weeks. This guy(Dave) is a VERY reputable seller, you will have no problems with him.  ;)   These will not last long and who knows if Dave will ever make any more. So if you need some flawless reproductions of the original, here they are...

I am not the seller just the messenger..  ;)  But I do know GM only allowed for 300 emblems to be made over a 3 year period.. So that's 100 pair of 3.. Not sure how long they will last.....

Hey guys I just got an email from the manufacture and It doesn't look good for us TGP owners..  Here part of it, unfortunately I could not show you all of the email due to legal requirements.....

Pitty the cost is blowing out.. I would much rather have seen these around $130 for 3. but the way the US$ went.. it killed the bloody project.. just hope some of your fellow TGP owners end up wanting these or I'll be melting them down unfortunately.
Dave

If you guys want/need some now is the time to buy... It will be the LAST time you see reproductions for the TGP. Dave went through hell to get the license, It's like GM wants this car swept under the rug to never be seen again...   BASTARDS

Till he runs out of emblems. Not sure how many were made, I would guess around 100 emblems. I am gonna make Dave an offer to buy in bulk, we will see what he says... It's pretty unfortunate the way things went down, I hope Dave does not lose a ton of $ on these, Him and his staff are great people and are easy to deal with..   :icon_mrgreen:

Wow those look amazing, if I had an actual tgp I would buy them.  It is unfortunate GM is like that but based on their earnings I'm sure they have some other things to worry about.....  Good luck selling them it was really cool you got these made. If I had the cash laying around I would buy a set just to keep for myself......

Just sold the first set,   Thanks to whomever purchased them...  It really sucks to have had these made and lose my credibility because nobody wants to buy them..  I will be buying the left overs after Christmas and who knows what I'll do with them.....  At least every TGP I buy from now on will have new badges... It will be the last time I try and get restoration parts for the TGP platform...   :leaving:   So if you have a mint TGP, you better keep it that way.

Guys even if you don't have the money put it on the CC, I know Adam went to a lot of trouble to get these done and it is the last time you are going to be able to get new ones.  This is one of the things I hate about the W-body crowd, everyone is talk, very few actually bring anything to the table.

Prove me wrong.

Honestly, my two cents: They are mint. They are beautiful and a dream, but with 99% of TGP's needing actual work, the amount of money to drop on badges versus getting the car running right...well, try and remember these are TGP's LOL. I do appreciate what you've done for the TGP community, it's more work than I would have done. And I know some people signed on for wanting some, and by the time they got made they either can't afford them due to repair bills or whatever personal thing is going on in their life, they may have sold their car, or they may have realized just what they actually cost and figured it's best to get the car running right first.

The guy who created these has done the TGP world a great favor.

Many Apologies for the above post, I had a bad weekend and took it out on you guys.. I'm sorry for that...   :icon_redface:   I could care less if anybody buys them, It's just sad to see such a rare car (that I have totally fallen in love with) and most of the owners do not care about the preservation or beautification of them. That's really sad and that's why they will never achieve the status of the GN, which was also produced by ASC...
Title: Re: Officially Licensed TGP badges
Post by: grinders_18 on October 06, 2008, 08:17:34 PM
I think the difference between the GN or Camaros or Chevelles, etc., is that their parts are more widely available, they're rear wheel drive, classics, very collectible, and KNOWN. I mean we might laugh at someone wanting to restore an Omni GLH-S...let's face it, with the amounts of money it costs just to get or keep a TGP running, restoration seems like a fantasy.

I love these cars as much as you all do...but let's face it: the target market or demographic isn't high spending people; it's broke but wanting a cool car for cheap then finding out you are in too deep and can't make a profit if you sold it now teens to 30's people.

I wish I had my TGP yet...badges were still mint and the car was nice!

Although I'd like to pick up a set of the repro badges so I can compare them to the factory mint unused badges I have...they still have the factory backing adhesive strips.

That's why I didn't put my name down for ordering any. I digress though.

Someone buy these badges from that guy so he atleast keeps the molds for future possibilities.
