Title: computer chip
Post by: jerry455 on October 24, 2007, 02:13:44 PM
i am inheriting my daughters 90 tgp and i want to start improving it. i here and read about jeff m's topgun chips and others . where can i get one and what are my options to what else is available. any other performance improvement  suggestions. the car has 107,00 miles and is stock with no cat ( plugged up) and new tgp injectors. it doesn't run bad but i would like more performance. i will be driving it everyday and once a month run it at milan dragway with the royal pontiac club. by the way we found her a 97 gtp 2 door and completely stock it ran 14.82 @93.15 mph so i would at least like to be close to that.

Contact Kenny (TGPilot) on this board, or email him through his webpage www.kazmotorsports.com

He offers rebuilt crossovers and a couple different chips depending on your performance needs.

I highly recommend him, I have his "Hot tune" chip in my car and it flies.

Don't waste your time waiting for Jeff M. since he never shows up anyways. Kenny (TGPIlot) is the one to talk to about your performance needs.

14.82 @93.15 in a 2nd Gen GTP stock at Milan = was that during the summer? I ask because I've seen people post much better stock times from there. Anyways, Kenny offers chips that will easily meet your performance needs and even surpass them if you only want to match that GTP's times. ;)

no that was 10-13-07 and almost the same on 10-20-07. both were fairly cool days . my daughter is still learning how to launch as there is a fair amount of wheel spin. itn has 72,000 miles and has sat for over 2 years before we got it about a month ago. everything is still original, never had a tune up or any other work done.

PM TGPilot, he may take a day or so to answer since he runs his own shop and things get busy...he will give you info on the chips he offers. There is a post on the forum here about which K&N filter will bolt directly onto the turbo, I highly recommend that method.

Do yourself a favor: change ALL your sensors now. Immediately. You will need to have them all changed if you do end up getting a chip anyways, so help your car out now.

WHat Grinders said..I'd start replacing all sensors, and the crossover.  The crossover is garenteed to be bad if it is still original...Kenny can set you up with a Chip and Crossover for as good of price as you're going to get!

And will never need to be replaced again.....

my buddy at the pontiac dealer found an original new cross over and it only cost me $180.00. it has a new fuel pump and tank, new gm 02 ,rapid fire plugs, new wires, alternator, new injectors. it runs pretty good but the last time we had it at milan dragway my daughter said it was shifting at a higher rpm. it ran slower than it previusly had so i will have to look at the tv cable as it has some cracks in the covering and just overall looks beat up other wise runs good ,she even got 26 mpg the last time she was on the hi way.

You got the OEM crossover for 180?  Don't take this the wrong way, but I can bet it will crack in a little while.  Unless they changed their design for the ones they sold seperetely  which I doubt they did...I bet you it cracks within a year or two.....they were that bad!

Besides that, sounds like you got alot of the sensors and such fixed........

$180.00? I thought they had been discontinued or they were still listed at some insane price. Have you confirmed that it is a turbo grand prix crossover?

my buddy said there were 20 left when he got one for me. i am not sure if that was through gm or VPI but as of the summer of 2006 there were 20 left. my daughter lived in tenn. at the time and she came home for a weekend so i got the cross over and installed it.

If you actually had it in your hands then obviously it is a Turbo cross-over otherwise your turbo is just sitting there collecting road dust! ;)

I have a couple of chips that I offer.

Hot/Perf $350 = considerable gains over stock as well as the Jeff M TopGun chip.
HOT Tune $450 = Jeff who? This chip is not for the weak of transmissions. Max power is directly related to the position of your right foot (estimated 40% more than true factory power levels).

Both chips need to be installed on a car that has properly working sensors, good cross-over, GM 02 sensor, and a fully functioning fuel system!

I have sold approximately 35 of the Hot/Perf and 10+ of the HOT Tune chips now. Not one has had any issue to the motor and none of the HOT chips have hurt any trannies...but I warn all before they buy them that the torque the motor is putting into the converter is much more than it was designed for. That does not mean it can not handle it...just more! ;)

Let me know if you are interested,
