Hey guys,
As everyone knows I just put in the 3.1 turbo motor. I used a 91 gm crate motor.
Obviously it was built as a NA version. Anyways I used the oil pump that came on the motor. As of now I'm seeing 4 bars of oil pressure on my UB3 cluster. The sensor is good, I'm just wondering if you think I will be ok with using the NA oil pump. I do believe TGP's used a Melling high flow pump. I'm thinking they obviously did this for a reason.
I am bringing this up because I am ALSO throwing a Code 43(knock Sensor) I can't hear a knock, but that might be do to the exhaust leak I have and it's drowning it out.
I'm thinking I should be replacing the oil pump NOW with a high flow one(sucks as I had the oil pan of and would have been SOO easy to change out), but it is what it is......Any opinions? Thanks
I would drop the subframe, which I'd to NOW before having it aligned....
Remove that pump NOW and install a Melling M95HV.

This is what I've decided to do. I do not know why I didn't do this to begin with.....never even thought of it....

Also can somebody explain what a windage tray is? What do they do, and is it worthwhile to get since I got to pull the pan anyways?
don't go by the electrical gauge on your dash to check oil pressure. If you think you have an issue screw in a mechanical one to check pressure. I have seen many cars the electrical one reported low pressure and the actual pressure was ok. just a bad sender.
A windage tray is a tray that sits between the crank and the oil pan. As an engine winds up oil has a tendancy to rotate around with the crank. It can also pull the oil out of the pan to rotate A windage tray keeps the oil in the pan and helps keep too much oil from rotating. In severe race engines enough oil can get wrapped up around the crank that the oil pump ends up sucking air. A crank scraper would actually act like a knife to cut the layer of oil off the crank as it rotates.
