Title: 3.4 short block

anybody put in a 3.4 short block assembly as an upgrade to the smaller 3.1 short block ? just wondering as i may have access to a new 3.4 tdc motor. i know that pistons may have to be changed for the desired comp. ratio but i was just thinking.

You'd have to look for a 3400 or a 3.4L off a Firebird/Camaro. The one you have access to is totally different.  You'd have to use the entire engine.

With the 3400 you'd be better off, use the whole engine *fun* or use your TGP top end *torque monster*. The 3.4l from the F-bodys requre you to drill and tap for the starter to the other side and just use your TGP parts on the shortblock  with a custom crank trigger or use the whole engine with the distributor with Lumina APV van front timming cover and driven accesories.

i was thinking about a top end swap to the 3.4. i would have to check comp. ratio to see where they both are, but like said i am just wondering. was going to put the 3.4 tdc into a fiero i was driving everyday ( it has 224,000 miles on a 2.5  5spd.) but now that my daughter has a 97 gtp i have inherited her 90 tgp. starting to fix it up, not in bad shape just would like it to be a little quicker than it is now. when we go drag racing in the spring i would like to be close to her times. so far  97 gtp completetly stock never tuned up is running 14.80's @92mph and the tgp isn't near that yet but with some of the suggestions from this forum i hope to be close. i will also be working on her car too. smaller pulley, improved air box and a better exhaust.

In my opinion, the stock engine should be fine to 350hp. A good turbo upgrade, fuel system is needed. 
A chiped TGP should be well into the mid 14s.
You'd need to upgrade the Trans though. Thats what has held back some of thise guys.

what kind of trans upgrades? i am going to put in a new trans filter and fluid and am going to find the new dexron 6 fluid for it. i will probably install a trans temp gauge this spring.

What kind? a 4t60 that doesnt have weak internals, or maybe a G6 6 speed..

I personally would like to know what are the diferences on the TGP Prototype vs what actually made it into production.
