Title: Selling Black '89 TGP in Fair Condition for Cheap
Post by: Xom on December 19, 2007, 10:50:23 AM
1989 Black Turbo Grand Prix
I bought my first car in Summer 2005 (junior year in college), and it happened to be a black '89 Tubro Grand Prix. I knew nothing of the culture of the car at the time, I just realized it was cool. :)  I drove it to school for a year and a half, and stopped last fall when I went to study abroad for 4 months. I returned last Christmas, and found myself over-my-head busy with finishing my degree and working to pay rent, and now busy at my first job, with no time to maintain the car.

Car's Current Situation:
The car is sitting in Barrington, NH. It's been a little over a year since it was last driven. Currently, it does not want to start. I've tried to jump-start it, which results in all the electronics coming online just fine, but the engine won't turn over. I'm pretty sure it needs a new battery (the electronics work just fine when the other car's battery is hooked up, but they are dead when it is disconnected, even after giving a few hours for it to charge) Honestly, I'm really pushing the limits of my mechanic skills here. I loved having the car, but I don't have the skills or time it requires. I would really like to see it go to someone who will appreciate it, or use the parts to keep their own TGP running.

Mileage: 137,020 miles
Exterior: Black, paint is coming off in places, and some minor dents, windshield has a small crack
Interior: Gray leather, seats are in fair condition, minor cracks in plastic, carpeting has some damage from water getting onto driver side floor
Accessories: Gauges work, Wipers work, HUD works, Seats work, Sunroof works, Old 5-disc CD changer in the back works sporadically, Digital compass and electronics work.
Running Condition: Was running fine 15 months ago, does not want to start.
Parts: The car was previously restored and I have some extra parts from the other car: Extra steering column, extra gauge cluster, extra tail lights, and a few odds and ends.

Broken: There are a few things not working on the car: Air Conditioning, Driver-side door handle is broken, Locks (they technically work, but they are stiff and I don't trust them)

Barring the fact that it doesn't want to start, the car is in fair running condition. Asking $500 or best offer for the car as-is, available for pickup on my parents property in Barrington, NH. I really have to get it out of there, and I'd like to see this car go to somebody in the TGP community rather than junk it, if you have any interest please shoot me an email at manmorris@gmail.com.

just out of curiosity, I want to know, is the drivers side interior panel on the door factory or a replacement?  Is the patterns on the gray different than the tan material?

It's factory as far as I know, I certainly never noticed any difference between the two doors. I wouldn't know about any differences between the gray and tan interiors, sorry.

Hey Free BIG bump for a great ad! This is the way a For Sale ad should be written! Very easy to read and honest! First 89 with grey leather interior I've seen. I like it! Good luck with your sale!

Great. You're only 25 miles from me! I can tell those pics aren't too recent. The car should be buried in snow by now.
If you can't fix the car yourself why can't you tow it to a mechanic?
Have you thought about parting this car out? Check out some of the recent threads of people parting out. There's money to be made.
I'm in Manchester. If I can help in someway let me know.

if this car is going to be parted out, I will purchase it just to prevent that from happening.

On a side note, after viewing this thread, the price on my TGP has just dropped significantly to make room for this one!!! ;)

seriously though, if someone buys mine I will take this!! $3500??

Not a bad price at all, hopefully someone will buy it and keep it instead of parting it out. Has that driver's side seat belt been replaced(since it's tan in color vs. the rest of the interior)?

By the way, could you please post the VIN number for us?

I believe you stated that you had an extra cluster for sale?  Do you know if it is accurate?  I would definitely like to purchase it if so!  Please let me know. If not, if anyone else has one please post or PM me. ;)

if this car is parted out, I would like to know, because I will be investing in voo-doo dolls and a large container of pins to poke them with.

if I had a place to store it it would be here already.

also note the tan seatbelt

Ike I could send you another one of my t25/T04B hybrids and a chip. Instead of having 1 of the fastest TGPs on the planet you could have 2 like me...  :icon_eek:

I would like to see some more details about the hybrid turbo if I could. Main thing I am wondering about is if it will be more cost effective, rather than getting a Disco Potato.. Or are the boost amounts the same, ar, comp, etc.

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of updates. Yes, grandprixagain picked the car up on Saturday and is now the proud owner. He was able to get it started in next to no time with a new battery, and I believe now has plans to keep it in shape. Happy New Year!
