Not in my TGP, but in my 99 Malibu I got a wheel bearing going. I had thought it was a CV shaft because it I had a clicking and vibration in the floorboards when turning the wheel, not humming, so I changed the shaft only to find it out it is not the problem, but not more than 2 days later, I get that really loud and annoying hum. It's pretty bad, like it is hummin loud at only 30 mph, so I know I gotta change it soon, but the only thing is, I can't seem to pinpoint which side it is coming from, so is there an easy way to distinguish which side it is without having to take everything apart?
I usually find an empty parking lot. Zig zag the car right to left. As you turn left you will be placing more weight on the right side and vise versa for turning right. So if your turing right and the noise is louder than when turing left, the left wheel bearing is bad.. If your turing left and the noise is louder than when turning right the the right wheel bearing is bad.. Hope this makes sense Adam
Something that I do is jack the front of the car up and grab the top and bottom of the wheel. Try to "shake" it, if the bearings are bad you will notice some play or looseness when comparing both wheels. HTH
