Title: gauge cluster maybe... 99 malibu...
Post by: meltboy11 on February 03, 2008, 12:34:06 AM
So I am driving home from class yesterday, and I notice that my temperature is pinned down to the cold, which I thought was weird cuz when I left it was a little up cuz the engine was warm... a few min later it shoots up to the normal range... Then a few min later my battery light comes on for a brief moment and goes off, so I pull over to check to make sure my belt is good and it is... Then today while driving I had just checked to see how much gas I had and it said a quarter tank, then the needle shoots to empty and my warning light comes on... wtf, so I pull off and get gas and it only takes 10 gallons to fill, so I was definatly still good... Start it back up and drive, its on full again, then shoots back to empty a min later and stays like that til I get home... WTF!?!?

Does this sound like a gauge cluster going or something else as 3 different sensors appear to be F-ing up, I doubt all 3 went bad at the same time... I will post this on my malibu forums tomorrow, but I am posting here cuz you people are smarter than the people on my malibu forums... lol

I was also thinking the alternator might be going, but my lights don't seem to dim and my radio sounds fine and I have no other signs really of a going alternator, still gettin the 13-14 volts I normally get at the amp and it doesn't cut out, but I haven't been using it since yesterday either after the battery light came on like it did.

I honestly think Malibus are meant to last 135k miles, cuz in the past month I have had to replace both front wheel bearings, both tie rods, one axle and the other one needs to be replaced... I need to get another car but I can't afford a car payment atm... BAH I love GM and hate em at the same time... :p

My cluster looks like a christmas tree, I got the check engine light on, abs and brake light and theft system light, I think a couple others pop on time to time... lol

sounds like grounds. Check the body ground, usually by the battery tray or try to reground the cluster somehow.
