Title: Snapped bolts
Post by: grinders_18 on February 06, 2008, 02:37:17 PM
Ok, so the two bolts holding the IAC into the throttle snapped, with the ends being stuck into the throttle part. Currently, there's a vice grip holding the new IAC into place. How can I remove these bolts without removing the throttle body? I'm afraid of snapping anymore bolts.

Push comes to shove and I have to remove the throttle, how do I remove them then?

If you snap the TB bolts you're very talented.

Honestly, just goto the j/y and get another 3.1 TB.

Cheap and easy.

OK. I'll see if our local junkyard has one. If not, it there a way to remove the snapped bolts?

Drill them out and re-tap the holes, or try using and EZ out (screw extractor)

Going to look into the EZ out method. Thanks!

BTW 3.1 TB's are easy to come about, and just about every 3.1 has a 4T60 attached to it (the MPFI 3.1 NOT the SFI)

Our local junkyard in town doesn't carry anything but v8s and L67 cars...and imports **shudder**

The two in the closest town over dont keep vehicles for more than a month and then they crush them...They recently crushed a TGP AND TSTE!!!!! If I would have known this was how they operate, I would have gotten more parts.

2nd the the new jy tb.  A junkyard with both v8's and imports? wow thats a good yard for the v8 part :)  A TGP and TSTE shite thats wrong.  My JY here in NY had a TGP and I got there when it hit the dirt.  I Was there all day getting the major turbo items.....then everyday after work for 2 weeks getting the other stuff for about 1 hour at a time.  it took them like 2 months to crush it.......I really like the tste :)

Ya, like I said before, there are tons of 3.1s at my local junkyard up here cobra too, so if you, or anyone needs any 3.1 items, let me know, I usually go there at least once a week. In fact there is a 91 GP with the goldlace rims, but one is damaged, but I was still thinking of pickin em up to hang on to.
not to mention cobra, I am only like an hour and a half from you in Utica if you ever really needed anything big. IIRC you are in binghampton righ?

Your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to find me a vacuum harness clip on one of those 3.1's

Pretty sure our clip is specific as we have one more vacuum line vs. the NA cars.

EDIT: I forgot about the early 2.8/3.1 cars....maybe they do have the same clip as us. I know my '93 only has three vacuum lines at the throttle body, but I assume the 88-90ish models should have four.

That clip only came on the turbo engines since BOOST is passing through all those holes.  Without it, it will pop out and well you know the rest.

That's what I was thinking too, but people on the W-body board have mentioned clips(three vacuum line versions) on the NA cars(Berettas I believe) before....

Beretta NEVER received that clip.  It did have both types of rubber piece depending on year (digital egr vrs vacuum) .

well I looked at my moms 91 regal and it is different than mine, I didn't make it to the yard this weekend, we got a lot of snow today and I didn't feel like freezin my ass off up there...lol but I may be goin up in the next few days if it gets nice out... but ya I think my old 91 prix had only the 3 lines too, not 4... so idk if I will find one, they may be turbo specific...

All you have to do is swap the top plate on the TB over to the "new"r TB.  That's it.  You now have a TB compatible with your TGP!

Well if you still want, I will be goin up there once we get a halfway decent day I'll grab a few, they are small.

I have never seen that clip before and my na 2.8 gpse (88) does not have it and my car was cherry with low miles when I got it.  I think you boys are going to be using zip ties, unless you find a tgp in the yard you are not going to find it.

Been using zip ties lol...makes me look like a te-rard lol...I'll find one somewhere. Or I'll use gasket sealer to hold it in.

Dont get a whole new throttle body. You see that flat plate right next to where you IAC mounts, take those 5 little screws out. The plate comes up and off. Replace with a new junkyard one, and your done. Clean out the passages while you have it apart.

I can I'm just afraid of snapping more bolts, since 2 of the 7 total bolts there have snapped, and they're the only 2 I've tried to remove LOL!
