Title: turbo mounting gaskets?
Post by: dogginred90 on February 11, 2008, 04:03:05 PM
Hey guys,
Is there gaskets that go on our turbos where they mount to the x-over and downpipe. And if so where do I get them. It just doesnt seem right to have them metal to metal.
                                           Thanks guys,
                                                        Shawn

It's metal on metal, but you CAN use a crush style gasket IF need be and IF you can find them.  Although, if the surface is warped enough, no gasket will seal properly.  What you'll need to do is have the surfaces milled or resurfaced down to a true reading.

Thanks TGed I was just wondering it doesnt seem right. I am fighting a WOT 8psi + boost studder and backfire issue I cant get rid of. Was thinking of anything that can cause it.

Do you have new spark plug wires? I had the same problem and my 2 year old Taylor wires were the culprit. Its amazing what the heat in these engine bays will do.....

ran great first week with kennys chip ran GREAT next weekend backfire and studder. Gapped new plugs at .028 and 2nd set of wires in 3 months still the same. So right now I have the factory boost controller bypassed to give me 4 pounds and it runs fine like that. Just when it gets above 8psi it does this problem

the injectors are new ford yellow tops, all new sensors(map,iac,tps,o2,crank sensor, coils, ignition moduleand knock sensor) I am truely at a lose here I am going to start all over again I guess start with turbo and x-over to see if they are leaking and then start changing things till it runs right again, BTW new fuel regulator as well

That is what she looked like when I bought her. She looks better just needs painted now. She needed more than a bumper

have you changed the fuel filter? Is the crossover noisy under the hood can you hear an exhaust leak?  Does the motor have a vacuum leak? How much vaccum does it have at idle?  Just a few thoughts

fuel filter is new, the crossover doesnt sound noisy but i think it is factory so I am going to pull it off and pressure test it. Vacuam seems fine at idle. What ever it is it let go when I put Kennys chip in and I can find it other note when I gap plugs @.022 it seems to get a little bit better(less backfire)so I am leaning towards spark or cam is worn out what do you guys think of that.
