Title: cleaning the turbo
Post by: psych0matt on March 03, 2008, 09:31:14 AM
I have the turbo off and everything, but it has lots of carbon build up that I really wouldn't mind cleaning out  what's the best way to do this? i was thinking carb cleaner, someone suggested maf cleaner (less harsh I guess). any suggestions?

Unless it is flaking I would not worry about it. You might try soaking it in sea-foam top end cleaner? I have never tried it and do not know if it requires heat to fully activate...but you never know. I would try a little at a time just to make sure it does not etch the metal...but I doubt it.

you can do what I did and rebuild the turbo yourself

I used chem dip, carb cleaner, wire brush and for the turbine housing a shot blaster.
