Anyone have a T.V. Cable (kickdown cable) part number? I've searched but didn't find one.
I just used a tv cable from a N/A 3.1 4T60 car, and wrapped the end of it in header wrap where it goes between the x-over and the turbo.
The only difference is that the N/A one is plastic on the trans end vs the TGP one that is metal.
My plastic one has been holding up problem free for over a year now.
Sorry no part # though.
Are there any places that sell header wrap in less than 50 feet packages? Also, the kickdown cable for the TGP is only like $15 from Advance Auto.
I have the part number at work but it is dicontinued and a place called vintage part has 2 left but they want almost 200 dollars for 1. I pulled up the drawing of the part but it is a crappy photo copy to try and find out what the difference is between ours and n/a part. I think gm still carries the n/a cable.

What's wrong with your original cable? ;)
Well, when they replaced the tranny, they put on the cable that came with the tranny I bought...not the one I had in my car before this...

I'm assuming you can't get it adjusted enough to shift where you want it now with that cable? I still need to repair my stock cable on my black car(gotta remove the stock crimp and replace the plastic clip and then recrimp an end on the cable). I've been running a NA 3.1 cable for about a year now with no issues. The cable I got from the NA 3.1 was nearly brand new as the car it came from had a GM remanufactured tranny in it with low miles on it as well.
Well, lol, today when I tried to adjust it the button wouldn't even push in...like it'd go in, but not stay in. The car hates me. I'm sure of it. Usually when it does stay in, I pull the throttle back, get one click, then call it good. Is it better to have someone on the inside pushing down on the gas?
You have to depress the button and then adjust the cable fully in the direction opposite of how the accelerator pulls on it. Theres a plastic rack on the end of the cable that engages with that button that you will be moving.
Then release the button, and go inside the car and SLOWLY go to WOT.
If you go too fast, you will skip some teeth and overadjust the cable.
Kinda confusing but I hope that helps.

Sounds like you did what I did, broke the clip that attaches to the TB.
Ok so this is NOTHING like what I've been doing lol. I've just been pushing the button in, and pulling the throttle cable till it clicks once or twice. And then the button pops up on its own...I've been doing it wrong?? Are you supposed to keep the button from popping back up?
Ok, well what "plastic rack on the end of the cable that engages with that button that you will be moving." are you referring to??

Thanks Matt! So after you push the button, you gotta push that cone shaped thing in too? Wow how was I doing this so wrong?? lol
Couldn't you also manually down shift to the lower gear if no TV cable is present or in operable? I remember having to do that for a while on a old 3t40 until I got around to fixing it.
Hate to resurrect this old thread, but I have a question: Should there be slack in the TV cable? Like after I adjust it, and it clicks like 6 times or so into place, if I pull the end that has the clip or seal or whatever you wanna call it at the end on the cable, there's still plenty of cable I can pull. Atleast an inch if not more...prolly more. Is this normal?
When the throttle is closed after my cable(s) are adjusted properly, they do have plenty of slack in them when the throttle is closed. As long as it's shifting around the proper rpm during normal driving and WOT, it's fine.
Well, it shifts, but it shifts hard...tranny is new, mounts are new all around, cradle bolts are replaced, modulator is new, check valve installed correctly.
The guy who made my chip told me that it would shift harder because he altered the shift points, but I just wanted to be sure. My car is slow as hell in first gear...the other 3 are fine, but first gear is slow! Any ideas why this is? I mean, Nick can smoke his tires, I can't anympre.
I really need ideas as to why. Like I said, she's plenty fast in the other gears, but first is just too slow.

Sounds like my Red car. I have not had time to look at it lately, but I plan on combing through it and figuring out why it's turtle like at low speeds. It's not terrible, but it's a huge difference between it and my black car.

On a stock TGP the shift points are controlled by the vacuum modulator and the detent cable not the chip. :thumb:
Thank you for pointing that out to me! So everyone, do you think having that much slack is normal? Or should I try to locate a replacement?

Describe slack to me? I mean whats your definition of slack? Please keep in mind that the dentent cable does not have that much tension on it until the throttle is opened. So it may not be that tight to start with. Does the cable have a kink in it?
Cable has no kinks, but when it's just sitting there, and I'm not driving, I can pull the end of the cable through the black piece that attaches to the throttle a full inch, maybe 2 at most.

Does the cable have tension on it?? When you pull it through the black piece does it recoil back?
Yeah, it never just hangs out and I need to push it back in...by the way, the black piece I'm referring to, and hoping you are too, is the piece on the throttle, not the cone shaped thing you press in to tighten the cable...

Cool, Thats normal. You are just moving the line pressure valve thats connected to the other end of the cable... From the factory it has a week spring on it. ;)
