Title: Problems starting/running
Post by: Bullet on April 05, 2008, 03:06:39 PM
here's the low down.
I've replaced the IAC, TPS, and O2...codes 44 and 45 are being thrown now.
but I just replaced the O2, the car wont start for some reason.

I'm going to be replacing the Ignition module and coil packs because they were a previous issue that I haven't been able to deal with yet due to the screws having rust on the tips and not wanting to come off.

clue/ideas?
any help would be great, Thanks a million!

also what would cause my STE to boggout at acceleration or putt putt at idle?
I'm thinking coils/module. let me know if I should check anything else.
I'm running up to ewalmart to get a new Fuel filter just for the hell of it.
I'll be back in about 30 minutes

I wanted to say MAP... but 44 and 45 are O2...
http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/obd-i/bl-dtcs-78.htm?once=true& (http://autorepair.about.com/library/ts/obd-i/bl-dtcs-78.htm?once=true&)
that site has the codes for 90, im sure it has 89 on there too but they are probably the same...
But I still really wanna say MAP

wuups, forgot to put new map sensor down.....

and my problem isn't sensors at all.

my fuel pump is dead!! it was dieing before which is why my car didn't want to go anywhere or even idle that great.

my body from the J-Body club had the same issue with his 1989 Z24 2.8L 5-speed. he's the one that told me it qwas dea, and sure enough it was  :icon_mrgreen: not to happy about it, but I am thrilled that I can stop paying for all new sensors, ignition, and all the stuff I didn't need.

I'm scared to drop the gas tank, but hopefully somebody will help me do it, cuz I want it to be on the road again by Tuesday.

if anybody is within like 50 miles of me and is willing to help I'd pay for gas and pizza.

It is not that bad if the tank is near empty.......otherwise........you will want to siphon it out.....without getting gas in your mouth...... Undo the fuel lines comming in and out of the tanks......undo the goose neck going to fill on the side of the car. support the tank undo straps, lower tank take out pump by taking off hold down ring.  Use copper or a tool that will not spark when you are getting the ring off!  Such as a flat head wrapped in a towel or something.  Check out Kenny's post below.  It is not that bad, my friend did one at the gas station parking lot one time when on a road trip when his went out.  but he is crazy!

If you have any fuel pump activity, this is how you empty your tank out the easy way..

1) Take Schrader Valve cap off.
2) With a A/C schrader valve tool, and making sure the fuel system isnt pressureized, take the scrader valve out of the fuel rail.
3) Take a long piece of vacume hose, that fits snuggly over the schrader valve threads, and put it over the threads, and the other end into a gas can.
4) With the fuel pump hot wire (loose wire by the postive terminal on the drivers side strut tower), turn on the fuel pump, and let it drain itself dry.

This is also a easy way to give another car some gas that runs out. Done it a couple times with complete success.
The schrader valve removal tool can be had at most parts and tools store. I bought mine from advanced. It has a A/C style schrader tool on one end, and a standard schrader valve tool on the other.

Great idea!

thanks guys. I'm dropping my tank starting now, it has roughly 4 gallons of gas in it, but the gas gauge says it's on empty and the light is on...
well I'm gonna get right back on it now, I'll post updates every couple hours to show my progress.

I think I'll take pics as I go, that way other newbies will know what to do  :icon_idea:

I'm returning everything but the crank position sensor and the new O2 sensor.
I'd rather not have to cut my arm up again getting at the Crank sensor. plus it was only $18.
O2 was $20. I get to return the TPS ($32), Fuel Pump ($54), Fuel Filter ($11).

total cash spent on car since last monday = $70ish.

I've also ordered my new steering wheel controls! so all that's left on my to-do list is run wires for the speakers...and/or replace the stock ones.

You have all been a great help, since I've owned my 99 GTP and been trying to get help on ClubGP I've only found a couple guys that actually care to help someone. then I registered for TGP Forums for my 1990 TSTE and you guys are awsome!!!
Thanks for your help so for, I'm very greatful.
I think I'm going to get a couple more Mclaren's now
