Title: Got my PM III in but...
Post by: turby on November 09, 2002, 04:41:51 PM
now my brake lights won't go off. I went by Chris A.'s instructions and when adjusting the stoplamp switch I pulled a little too hard on the pin and pulled it out. It fell and I can't find the damn thing. What exactly is the pin for? Do I need a new switch now unless I find the pin for this one?

Also I can't get my cruise switch to adj. Any ideas?

There was a recall on the switches if I remember correctly. they would short out somehow and fall apart. If you pulled that little metal tab out, you'll most likely need a new switch. The cruise vent switch should push in towards the pedal, then set when you let the pedal go. It might take some effort, but thats all there is to that one. I don't know why they used this stupid 1/2 moon brake switch anyway.

Thanks Chris.... Already went and bought a new brake switch. It's made by GP Sorensen and looks to be better built. The tab on this one can't be pulled out.

Now, why is my anti-lock light still flashing. It doesn't do it on startup. After applying the brakes about 1/2 dozen times it starts flashing. I do know I didn't get them bled completely. The bleeder valves on the front calipers are shit. I bought those this morning too. I'mm going to bleed everything again and see what it does.

UPDATE
I just fixed my brake switch. I discharged the PM and turned the key on. 1 min. 16 sec. for pump to shut off. Motor comes on every 3rd time I step on the brakes. Held pedal down and motor didn't run.
Discharged system again and turned on ignition. This time I got to 3 min. and the pump was still running.
What does this mean? Did prior fuk up? Is there air in the system causing this?

If you have bled it well, then give it some time to rest. Sometimes the fluid gets areated and can cause this. If the brakes seem to stop ok, good firm pedal, then drive a couple of days and bleed again. Sometimes I can go through 3 jugs of fluid trying to get all the air out.

The pedal isn't very firm at all. But I have a ton of brakes compared to before the other PM quit. I'll give it a couple days and see what happens.

Go to Chris A's site and he has all the info. There's a company in Texas that rebuild's them. Cost me just short of $500 + $100 core charge. There units are very well rebuilt.

Hey Red..

When the pump runs for more than 1 minute it will tend to aerate like Chris said. These bubbles will get into the lines and cause havoc for you. What I did when I replaced the rear calipers and rebuild the fronts is to let the pump run and bleed as described, then let it sit for 10-15 minutes. Open the resevor lid and you will see when it has settled down, the fluid will be clear again not milky looking. Refill and bleed again. It was a pain in the balls to get it right on mine, but now they stop the car on a dime!!!  8)

Thanks TGPilot, I'm waiting on my rear brakes to come. (off a 96 regal with very low miles) When they get here I'm going to bleed them until I get clean fluid coming out all the lines. I also need to put new bleeders in the front. I didn't get those bled as well as I should of.

Yes I'm doing the conversion. It only took two months to get that jackass to give me a final price on them. Oh wait, he's gonna read this. Just f'ing with you Josh. It's not like they would have done any good before I got the PMIII in anyway. I do however appreciate you going to the j'y and getting them for me. Thank you.

And thank you once again Chris for what you did for me. I sent that other money order out this morning. I paid to have it get to you Friday. Would have been tomorrow but it's turkey day.
