Can someone suggest a good one to get, I plan to get one this summer now that I found out my uncle can weld it on for me.
Get a Gen 1 DSM BOV. Thats what I have.
Make sure you get the flange to go along with it.
I agree with nick, or get an Ebay equivalant.
the one on my old TSTE was of ebay, worked great, but wasn't loud enough for me...lol
plus it was mounted in a crappy spot, right before the IC. if/when you put one on your car,
do it on the charge pipe near the TB for best effect.
that's where I was thinking of putting it, I am just having a hard time finding one I like.
This is the one I just welded up today. I'll let you know how it works :) I'm a busy bee these last few weeks.....mod city. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=016&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=260246049131&rd=1

yeah that's the typical style. although I know of a couple members who put that new SSQV style ones. they're really good looking but have a really long blow off (cheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeewwwwwwww), as oppossed to a high pitched psssssssssssssstttttttt... :thumb:

I like it... it's red... lol
I just tried it out, it definately made the car faster! Or maybe this is the first time I have redlined the new motor with the cam? I dunno but the boost picks up fast between shifts!! It is not that loud which I like.......it goes psssssssssssttttttttttt! Glad I did it!

awsome man, you got a pic of where you welded for reference, I will probably order this on Thursday that way I can have it in time for the track on the 29th.

Ok I'll try and get a video today and take a picture of my setup. You guys won't like where I put it, on the charge pipe after the turbo but in reality it does not matter where you put it since it is getting the vacumn signal from the intake manifold to open so upper pipe, lower pipe it is really up to you because it will vent at basically the same time:)
Sorry for the rant.

thanks man, I loiok forward to seeing it :thumb:
Ya, I was trying to figure out in my head why in the hell it would matter where you put it, it seems like it would do its job anywhere in between the turbo and TB
Yea you want it closer to the turbo , the point is to keep the turbo from surging ( the awful fluttering sound you hear)
orly? ok, ya, I have seen some people with it on the lower pipe and it doesn't look too bad. I guess that makes sense to have it closer to the turbo.
Go and look at any car that comes from the factory turbocharged and has a blow off valve. Notice how they all have the BOV mounted within ~18" of the throttle body. They do this for a reason. The closer to the TB, the better.

Why then? Think about what the BOV does. When the throttle blade closes the engine is in vacuum, this draws a vacuum on the pressure port on the BOV allowing the pressure in the charge pipe to open the poppet valve venting off boost to the ambient thus preventing compressor shock. So if the vacuum source is the same place......why does the position along the charge pipe matter (Neglecting head loss in the charge pipe which is likely insignificant due to the huge charge pipe diameter) the whole charge system pressure is static at this point since you are off the gas so the turbine is spooling down and the blade is closed so the pressure drop due to the venting of the BOV will be about the same across the entire charge system.
All I know is, mine is right after the turbo on the 2nd 90 bend on the way to the intercooler and I noticed a big difference with the manual trans between shifts at wot. The turbo is way faster to respond between shifts I can see boost pressure of .5 kg/cm^2 which is about 7psi right after shifting! Before the turbo was not producing any boost between shifts at first.
To each his own, I'll post pictures of my setup tonight.

I agree, the pressure begins at the TB when it closes, not at the turbo.
but again, "to each his own" as cobracmdr said
where have I heard this argument before...........Oh yea here
Try the search section guys
Ok as promised here is my setup. Did it myself with my neighbors welder and a little rattlecan.com :)

this wasn't started as an arugment thread, it was started as a thread about which kind of BOV to get... that's just the way it ended up going, and I like it cuz I am learning a little at the same time.
I have mine in the same place as Cobra....how it works I don't know as I've never driven the car without a major exhaust leak and the wastegate closed...so I should know within a few weeks once the turbo cutty is back on the road!
whats more expensive your TB or your turbo , the restriction begin when the tb closes but where else is the pressure coming from,,, hmmmmm the turbo.

I hear you Ike but I think we need to get this back on topic for Meltboy what BOV are you other guys using REGARDLESS of where you put it.
i've got the greddy type rs. mounted right near the TB, which is where i've always hear to put it. at any rate it fits perfectly where it is and its pretty damn loud.
cobracmdr, thats a nice lookin weld....i suck
