I'm looking for a set of lowering springs if they even make them...for the 1988-1991 Grand prix's.
I've seen those years lowered but nobody will tell me where to buy them. I'm not going to cut my stockers cuz that's just stupid so don't tell me to do that. if there aren't any on the market then I'll just stay with factory ride height.
letme know what you have/find!
Thanks!!
Steve
Intrax or suspension techniques used to make front only springs for our w cars but not anymore. The only route is to get some 95 monte carlo springs and use only the fronts, they will run you like 250 at summit.
Ken
ouch, that's a bit much for just fronts...
what about a suspension swap?
any way to get rid of the dumb monoleaf?

dumb monoleaf? You are kidding right? The stock setup handles great in fact it is the same kind of setup they used in the 60's corvette IRS. I don't know why everyone hates on the monoleaf so much.
Back in the day I had a 96 olds cutlass supreme I put the then TDC coilover system in. Lets just say those damn things were noisy and structurally unsafe. I should have known better being an engineer. I did not see a big improvement over stock in the handling, only a bouncy ride.
Get some new struts I bet that will help your handling a lot.
Ken
I didn't mean that it sucks, it's just that while I had my STE it was a pain to get at the gas tank, and really...it just looks like it would weigh a lot.
but I know that it handles nice. I have a 99 GTP and honestly I was really impressed with the TSTE's rear suspension and how it never squatted (spelling?) in comparison.
I just want to lower the TGP when I get it and did't know if I'd need to change out the monojleaf or if it would be too stiff.
any thoughts?
If you're lowering the rear the monoleaf will have to be swapped for an aftermarket one or coilovers (unless it sags enough by itself ). Birchmount and Flex-a-form make some, do some searching on w-body for info and feedback on them from members.
The stock leaf is fiberglass, it doesn't weight much at all.

Werd the stock leaf weighs like 8 pounds or something. coilovers probably weigh more :) If you want to lose weight try getting rid of all the sound deading in the interior ;) thats worth 50 lbs I bet :)
I dunno how far you've been into the interior, but the sound deadening we have in these cars prolly weighs 50 lbs wet :icon_lol: not including the carpet.

considering I'm getting Krenzy's (Grinders18) TGP I'm no going to keep it in near mint condition!!!!
as far as a different monoleaf, I'll check on W-Body. are there any front lowering springs cheaper out there?
There are quite a few lowering posts over on w-body.com about various lowering springs(for the front & rear). Besides the commonly mentioned springs, there are some "Spring Tech" springs available...but I'm not sure how well those work on these cars and if they lower them the amount that they advertise. They're pretty popular on 1997-2003 Grand Prix's for what it's worth.
