Title: couple questions
Post by: meltboy11 on July 05, 2008, 01:54:59 PM
First off, what is the boost set at on the topgun 180 chip, all I have is the stock gauge so I can't really tell, it goes all the way up to 15 and I know that aint 15 psi.. lol

What is a good gauge to go with, I am looking to get some new gauges soon and tryin to make an a-piller.

would getting an MBC be a good idea, or would I just be negating the chip I have in there? Or in contrast, would it help more?

The MBC will not mess with Jeffs chip because he regulates boost with the stocker unless you turn it up past what his boost cutoff is, which I do not know.  I know with a auto car an MBC is going to allow the turbo to spool up FAST and might cause trans issue.  But I am far from an expert on the jeff m chip.  Honestly if you want more boost I would talk with flybynite or kenny about a custom chip for what you want to do with your car.  Or get the stuff and start tuning yourself :)

MBC are nice for the price, but be careful of a possible boost spiking situation.

What do I need to be careful with, how far is too far?

A MBC is pretty much only going to make you spin the shit out of the tires. I've tried it before and the instant spoolup you get with the MBC results in nothing but major wheelspin(a lot more than normal...and I have traction issues using the stock boost control solenoid!) at lower speeds. The car is a bit more responsive from a roll with the MBC also. Using one will put more stress on the transaxle. The chips Ken mentioned are the best bang for your buck if you want to add some more power.

Everyone that I know that usually uses a mbc in a modded tc car has upgraded the turbo that will allow for some or more lag from a dig.

see, that's the thing I like, if I floor it from a dead stop, I don't get too much wheel spin and I want to keep that.. I like the instant get up and go, I hate burnin the rubber off my tires like that. I just want the best bang outa my turbo that I can get, and if the 180 chip is enough for my tranny to handle, I don't want to go more and hurt it until I can get it rebuilt stronger one day.
I just have not really been able to find out a lot of information on everything this chip puts out, I just know that I like it over stock... :p
I am not a tuner or anything like that, I am just a backyard mechanic that can fix this and that. I don't understand all that deep shit that's involved.
