Title: Valve Spring R&R
Post by: TGed on July 23, 2008, 02:09:48 AM
In the past I have always removed the lower intake to do valve springs in a 2.8/3.1 while engine is in car, but can they be done with teh LIM still installed?  Just springs, nothing else.  I am more concerned with the rear ones since the LIM over laps the head a lot.
If so, any pics or tips?  What type of compressor did you end up using?  I have the standard "pry bar" like tool... but I was thinking of another type that looks promising.

You're pretty much going to have to remove the lower intake to remove them. I've installed rocker arms before with the LIM(and upper intake!) installed before, but it's honestly a pain in the ass to even do just that. The lever type spring compressor should work fine. This thread reminds me that I still need to install new springs in my 1993 Grand Prix, the stock really high mileage springs have gotten a bit weak...

Ok, thank you for the info I'll just keep doing them the same way as I always have done.
