:? I am sure that most of our cars has had the paint to wear off around the headlights. I am curious as to some of the methods that could be used to restore them.
the 89's had a black border around all 4 sides of the headlight and around the edge of the side marker. The 90's only had paint along the top and bottom edges of the headlight and side marker. It wears off because paint doesn't stick so well to the glass. If you have plastic headlights the paint stays much better.
I would suggest using black tape of some sort. You can use black 200mph tape, lettering tape (like for pinstripes but thicker). I've taped off and repainted mine (see picture above) but it will wear off again.

Thanks for the ideas, I 'm gonna try to look for something that will withstand the heat that they emit. I 'll let everyone know how I make out.
I used 500* black paint on mine and it worked very well. I masked off the borders and made sure it was as clean as I could get it. 2 Months and so far barely a missing molecule. A friend of mine suggested if it didn't take to buy some glass etching stuff to roughen it up for the paint to stick better... 8)
Anyone have an easy procedure to remove the headlights so I can do this painting around them? I can't seem to figure it out.
I did not remove mine at all. I had just masked the portion of the headlight that I did not want to paint. I then masked the part of the fender and grill so that no overspray got on them as well.
does it look better if its painted all around the light, and even the fogs, and possibly part of the turn signal, i think thats would look awsome, so how would u take the whole headlight out, or is it pretty strait forward
unscrew the corners and slide them out. there' on a bracket that's held on by two bolts. take those out. headlight frames have 4 bolts each; two are really easy to get to with a decent length extender, and two are a bitch and three quarters to get to.
take off the black "shelf" thing in front of the cross member and behind the headlights, or lift each side up.. I dunno, I don't have on on my car so I dunno how they work on GPs.
but behind the headlight theres two bolts straight down, and then theres two that are kind of tucked under and facing forward. they're the bigger pain, but I guess they're not that bad. Once unbolted.. well, mine didn't really fit that great on the way out, but since my bumpers kinda plah anyway I just pressed it down to compress it to try to make the light fit out and gave it a decent yank. I'd be more careful with a better condition car though :?
