Title: Testing out the 5 Speed VIDS
Post by: killinprixs on November 26, 2008, 04:30:26 PM
Let me just say the 5 speed swap is by far the best mod for any TGP.   Adam (flybynite) hit the nail on the head, the tune is awsome.  Im probably putting the car away for the winter in a couple days,  plan on installing a stage 3 clutch, fixing EGR pipe and installing a new gas tank.  Might install EGT gauge i have layin around and a HKS bov.  Heres a couple short vids... enjoy

No..I still have wiring issues to sort out....Although I think it's the ignition switch/turnsignal switch.  I'll be testing a known good steering column tonight to see if it'll run/have power!

I hope it is, because if it's not, I have NO CLUE what is wrong.  FUN FUN I do have all winter to figure it out tho!...But glad to see someone is enjoying their 5spd TGP!!!

I'm probably mistaken, but I thought there were some aftermarket ones available through one of the parts chains.

Its a stock reman i got locally.  I removed both pieces last night, its strange, it looks like the joint itself just came out but i dont see anythign actually broken. im thinkin i hit a little pothole while the tires were spinning in  2nd... didnt really notice any wheel hop but that what it was.  I did get a tip to a local place that could make hardened axles.

Careful Ike intermediate shafts are hard to come by!  Rockauto online has passenger axles for 75 bucks;)

I know Ken, exactly what i was thinking... im going to throw another reman in there for now...see how long it can last first... i know kuntzie had wicked problems with the passenger axle but i believe it was because he was lowered too much and threw things off.  Oh Jimmy, once i talk to them on the phone i have no problem supplying you their number.

well she moves again at least!  im thinking the reman axles i got are too short on passenger side, the tripod rollers ride close to the edge of the inner housing... its supposed to be able to slide in and out but i think its riding way to far out... thats what happend the other day, it popped completely out of the housing.   I brought them the 2 pieces and they reconditioned it for me cause nothing was broke... Something is not right. can anyone here with a 282 tell me does the tripod ride THAT close to the edge on passenger side?  im guess they used the wrong out shaft somehow.
heres a few pics when i removed it.

boy is it dead around here!  Axle is all better now, they used the wrong shaft by accident.   Good to know that wont happen again.
