Title: WTB? a NICE STE Turbo!
Post by: twinturbosedan on December 08, 2008, 07:42:29 AM
i'm car shopping this week.  i already have the loan pre approved now i just need to find something.  i'll be looking at alot of different cars, and even though a TGP is quite a bit older than what i'm looking for i would consider a Turbo STE if it had fairly low miles and in very good condition.  i'm looking for a car that needs nothing.  i don't care if it has cloth or leather but it must have a power moonroof and preferably unmodified.  also, NO rust at all!

doubt i'll find one, but thought i would give it a shot :)

nah, i don't want to do anymore swap stuff.  even if i did get a TSTE i wouldn't put a 282 into it.  i like that marroon STE but there is actually a fairly nice maroon '91 DOHC STE sitting in a town about an hour from me that i could pick up really cheap but i don't want a project.  i already have the GS and R/T for that.

as for that white 49k mile Turbo STE - something like that is EXACTLY what i'm looking for.  but i've heard the guy wants way too much for it.  on top of that, my bank will finance 100% of the car's NADA value and even a mint '90 Grand Prix STE only has a high retail of a whopping $2400.  which means if i want to buy a nice Turbo STE, i would have to pay cash, or it would have to be under $2400.....or i'd have to include my Regal GS as collateral which would be ridiculous.  i don't want a TSTE that bad lol.  i think that guy with the mint 49k TSTE wants something like $5000.  then again it's been on autotrader.com forever now.

it's too bad NADA doesn't have any pricing for the ASC/McLaren TGP/TSTE option although i doubt even that would raise the value that much.

That burgandy one is a bargin for those miles! Also I called the owner of the white one 2 years ago, while it is cherry always garaged, new PMIII from GM!!!  He is asking 10k for it and won't budge, would rather let it sit in his garage than sell it for less.  One of those guys!

I miss my TGP I put it away for the winter.   Right now I'm driving my dad's old 97 chevy 1500 4X4 with 153k on it.  I'll post up some pictures of it later.  I think it is basically mine now that I replaced the intake gaskets on it last week!

good luck finding a TSTE!

I will sell you mine Josh. I have a suburban that I am going to keep over the winter and then buy the wifey a V70 Volvo Wagon. The TSTE is just sitting there. The only thing it needs is a headliner and the rear shocks replaced unless you do not mind SOLID feeling shocks in the rear.

Let me know...I would be willing to let her go for $2500 to someone like you to take care of her.  ;)

Yep, a twin turbo A6. He posted about it on the w-body board. I guess Josh decided that he wanted something newer. ;)

sorry Kenny.  i was actually out of town for several days this week in Laramie and Colorado and did not have internet service.  i would have had trouble getting a loan for a TSTE, all because of the NADA value.  in all seriousness, if your car only had moonroof i would have tried to make it work.  i know that sounds trivial to some but it's very important to me.  it's the one option that is absolutely MUST HAVE for me.  that's the one thing i have always regretted when i bought my Regal GS :( and it bothers me to this day.  i should have waited for a GS WITH moonroof :bash:

anyways, yes, i did buy a new car.  for some reason people sure like to talk down on it and/or give me shit about it.  i'm not sure why.  it's a 2000 Audi Quattro A6 2.7T with a 6-speed manual.  i got it from a guy in Parker, Colorado (south Denver).  the previous owner was an older guy that lived in Colorado Springs (in his 70s i think) and did not need it anymore due to health problems.  he offered it to his son (who was probably 45-50) but it was impractical for him and his family so he put it up on craigslist.com where i found it.  i'm the 3rd owner.  the car just past 94k on the way home.  this thing is pretty quick:  250hp & 258 ft/lbs DOHC 30-valve 2.7L Intercooled Twin Turbo V6, AWD, 6-speed manual badass family sedan!  it even has twin intercoolers.  seems to be fully loaded with power moonroof, black leather interior, all four (front & rear) heated seats, dual zone climate control and lots more.  this car came with a huge stack of receipts!  everything from timing belt/water pump replacement to oil changes and even light bulb replacements!  brand new Yokohama tires and new windshield installed literally 191 miles before i bought it.  this guy kept records of the car religiously and it was very well taken care of.  looks almost new inside/out and runs drives that way too!  it is very fun to drive!  i have to go back down to Denver on Monday to pick up my Spirit R/T which is currently sitting at the guy's house haha.

sale is pending on my Shelby CSX - i simply didn't have the time for it.  as for the Regal GS, i am doing a ton of work to it right now.  i just spent almost $2000 on the suspension, brakes and tires.  i still have to install all of the stuff i bought - Monroe Sensa-Trac struts, Monroe Strut-Mate strut mounts, Spicer PG outer tierods, GM lower control arms with balljoints and bushings, ZZP poly dogbone mounts and solid rubber (non-hydraulic) lower engine & solid rubber GTP-style trans mount, Brembo rotors (blanks), Performance Friction pads (including 12" front rotor upgrade with brackets from '00 Impala), BFG Traction TAs tires, ZZP S/C coupler, and a Gates (metal pulley) S/C belt tensioner.  uff-da!  i'm buying a nice set of replacement (identical to mine) front seats from a '98 Regal LS next week when i go to CO since mine have some rips and also replacing the passenger side rearview mirror since mine has a small chunk broken off it and this car is the same color.

wanna trade straight across for your TSTE :icon_lol:  :icon_biggrin:

anyways, sorry it did not work out.  i realize the whole lack of moonroof thing probably sounds ridiculous but considering it has always really bugged me about my Regal GS....

btw, here is the new ride:

well it's almost 10 years old already!  i still want a TSTE, but i'd have to sell the Regal GS just so i'd have room.  there's just something about my Spirit R/T...i gotta keep that one :)  i'm selling my CSX to a guy from OK.  he had CSX #674 but it had a bad engine fire :(  he is going to basically combine what's left of his and mine to make one really nice CSX.  good to know it's going to a good home.  i've had some kids here offer me MORE money for the CSX but i would never sell it to some kid that would probably destroy it in short order.  i even had one of my friends offer me cash (literally waving it in my face) and i would not sell it to him because i know he rods the shit out of his cars.

anyways, i'm happy with the Audi.  VERY HAPPY :icon_biggrin:  i really like my Regal GS too and am planning on starting in on the go-fast mods early next year.  the Spirit R/T is basically just my fun work car really.  i would really like to get it repainted sometime next year though (original white).  we'll see.

Consider it a done deal on my side Josh. We just need to make our schedules work. I will know my weeks schedule most likely tomorrow.  ;)
