Title: bad alternator signs?
Post by: unirok on January 05, 2009, 09:53:42 AM
My battery went completely dead in stop & go traffic a while back so i replaced the battery. I noticed recently at light sometimes the car sounds like it wants to shut off and the blinkers get really slow at times? Is the alternator easy to replace myself?

Thanks
Chris

Chris,

It could be a number of problems.  If I were you and had access to another ride, I would take out the Alt and take it to checker, pepboys, advance auto, etc and have them test it out.  I would also recommend replacing your ground wire with a bigger one.  Or doing the "Big 3 upgrade" See attached link.

Your could also have bad battery cables, causing a drain on your electrical system.  I would definitely replace the ground wires.

WOW I have never heard of a TGP having this issue. I KID, I KID. Mine did this and my alt. tested fine. But I changed it anyways and it helped, but replacing the alt wire with 4 gauge helped out the most.
