I JUST BOUGHT MY 1990 TGP FROM A GUY IN INDIANA TO DRIVE IT TO LOUISIANA THIS CAR WAS CALLING ME OVER 800 MILES AWAY I GAVE 3,500 FOR IT HE SAID IT HAD ONLY 71000 MILES ON IT BUT IM SURE HE CHANGED OUT THE GAUGES, RIGHT AFTER I LEFT THE BRAKES WENT OUT SO I TOOK A CHANCE AND WITH CAREFUL DRIVING MADE HOME THATS 800 MILES WITH ALMOST NO BRAKES, AFTER I GOT HOME THE NEXT DAY , I TOOK THE WIDOW MAKER TO A FRIEND OF MINES SHOP , PUT THE COMPUTER ON IT IT GAVE A CODE A061 TELLING HIM IT'S A RELAY OR SOMETHING, SO AFTER I LOOKED OVER THE CAR CHECKING RELAYS AND FUSES,, IT WAS ONLY A VACUUM LEAK ON TOP THE ENGINE, THAT TURNED OFF THE BRAKE LIGHT,
BUT THE ABS WAS STILL ON THEN I FOUND ANOTHER VACUUM HOSE BROKEN AROUND THE SAME AREA ON THE DRIVES SIDE NEXT TO THE THROTTLE BODY THAT LEAD TO THE REAR OF THE ENGINE, I HOPE THIS HELPED I AM NEW HERE AND EXCITED TO GET MY TGP UP AND RUNNING PERFECT, NOW I NEED TO FIND OUT WHY MY catlytic converter IS TURNING CHERRY RED,,
If you could please, dont type in caps, its very hard on the eyes..
Anyways, for us to help you further, we would probly have to start with a picture of your underhood. You are talking about a vacume leak, or break, but these cars dont have vacume brakes. So we would need that picture to verify the type of brake system you have.
Beyond that, one of the other guys will have to help you with the Brake Light code you got.
After you fixed this vacume problem, did you have brakes again?
yea vacuum should have no effect, we have a Hydraulicly assisted ABS System, no vacuum assist.
Your Catalitic converter is cerry red due to being CLOGGED!
hey guy's im new to the site ,
this is the deal i am trying to identify this piece that sets on top of the throttle body, it has i think 4 lil vacuum hoses going to it, and i think it one of my problems for lost of power in the engine.. so if you know the part number or what it is please let me know , thanks popeyeztgp
You'd be better off grabbing one at a junkyard, 3.1s are a dime a dozen at yards, but why do you think that is the problem, chances are that is fine and your vacuum problem lies somewhere else, check to make sure everything is connected and no lines are cracked/broken.
do you mean the clip broke that holds the 4 line Plug thing, and when you hit boost it pops out and you loose all your boost. You cant get new ones, make a peice of wire or somthing hold it on.
oops to start off i got excited and miss spelled a cpl words..mah bad
thanks for replying . Well to start i do have a digital camera but for some reason my plug won't fit in the camera anymore . KIDS ! i guess but it seemed when i taped up the vacuum leak the brakes started working and all lights went off, but then they came up again,, the catty is gone now and have a much deeper sound, braked work sometime only , i hear the (i guess pump running under the dash) they work fine but the abs still comes on from time to time,
now there is what i think is called the ICM under the hood on the passengers side under the plastic cover that pretty much just bounces around looks like it needs to be bolted in, seems if like the plastic cover was off at one time and it was grinded into by the power steering pump , is this something i need to be concerned about? and i know my TGP is a Mar.1990 "V" model as Mclaren right?
That's actually the computer(ECM) that's located under the plastic beauty cover on the passenger side. You need to secure it down asap as you don't want it bouncing around while driving. I merged your other topic you posted with this thread by the way. ;)

Correct, the computer under the passenger front seat is for the ABS.
Cool that you still have the clip, thats a hard one to come buy. AS far as the rubber peice that the clip holds in place, I suggest buying one new from the dealer. I think they are still available.
That rubber vacuum block that plugs into the throttle body is only available with the whole vacuum "spider" assembly as far as I know. Part # is 10114903, but I do not know if they're still available.
wow that was fast thanks alot Matt i will try and get some pictures up tomorrow of my TGP, i will have to go to wolly world for the adapter on the camera,,,
