Title: Compressor housing swap
Post by: stargazer7467 on April 11, 2009, 07:55:23 PM
I did a search w/o any info, but has anyone considered a compressor housing swap with a chrysler Garrett T3 compressor? The turbine is small .48AR, actually the stock TGP .63AR is a nice upgrade for the Turbo Dodges, other than the wrong flange.  I just pulled the engine and have a Chrysler T2 housing Im gonna try, just wanted to see if anyone has actually done it.

Years ago before the disco potato (GT turbos) people would do a T3 super 60 swap (custom turbo).

All of us would be all ears if you came up with something new :icon_mrgreen:

Yes I did back in the late 90s. The compressor wheel on the dodge is a tad bit bigger on the exducer but smaller on the inducer. The turbine wheel on the dodge is larger then the TGP turbine wheel but by only 7mm or so. Not that much of a difference maybe a few ponies...

Just offhand,I'm thinking no-but,i've got an IHI turbo off of a 2.3 thunderbird turbocoupe.
Turbo is no good, need rebuilt and at least one new wheel-but I wonder if either housing will swap?
The cold side would probably be smaller then I want i'm assuming though, but the smaller hot side would make it spool quicker maybe?
If it fit, might be something to use to bring the powerband down closer the stall rating for some fun spirited city driving?

Just thinking out loud, off the top of my head it sounds like a pointless idea-but I have the turbo and am just selling it anyway.
I believe it uses a ford style T3 flange also though, blah.

You would be better off just to mod the original center. Here is a link to my t2871r hybrid, should be good to 475 crank hp..
