I know most of you guys from the w-body and my gmwbody.com forums. I'm Jay from Texas.
You know me as ManicMechanic over there.
I am storing a 1990 TGP for my friend Jake (not sure if he is here or not) since the transmission went out.
He was planning to put in a 5 speed and had pretty much all but given up finding one. I was perusing Craigslist and saw an ad that simply stated "1992 Grand Prix $350" and I clicked on it. It was just a base looking BYP SE and I was going to pass as it said "not running" but got a closer look at the shifter...A 5 speed GP!!! I saw the 24 valve v6 callouts as well.
Well, went and paid for it and he noticed that the serpentine belt was snapped. So we went and got one for $14. Threw in an Optima red top. About 15 minutes to charge the battery and crank it to clear out all the crap, it started! He drove it home as it ran so good. The A/C is ice cold, the cruise works, even the factory CD works! Very weird car with the options it has.
Well, until yesterday. The timing belt tensioner was JUNK and it started making a bunch of noise. lol We are in the process of throwing a new belt and all on it. The $8 tensioner plate is holding us back and it's due in tomorrow at 7:30 AM.
I joined to gather more info about the TGP and do my best to get him to keep it looking like it came with a 5 speed from the factory.

Nice to see ya, Jay! ;)
