May 22 was the first Midnight Mayhem at Cordova Drag park and for me it was awsome! My first night back since last fourth of July, my four runs were 1. 14.7 at 92mph 2. 14.68 at 93ish mph 3. 14.65 at 93ish mph 4. 14.67 at 93ish mph. I lost the slips their in the laundry somewhere. The opponents were 1. a looking to pretty 2000 mustang. 2. a chipped quad cab silverodo. 3. a newer 2.4L turbo neon with a moose call on his blow off valve. 4. the only one I lost to was a first gen mitsubisi eclipse five speed turbo. All and all a good start to the year.
As far as mods: Topgun 160 chip, MSD coil packs, K&N air filter, jeff m crossover,a hack job 3" exhaust from the down pipe to the stock y pipe and from the y pipe to two XL Performance mufflers, and I removed all the seats the radio and all the trunk fluff. plus the car is pushing just over 191,000 miles on the odometer. It does have a lowermilage turbo on it though.
Mid 14's on just a Jeff M chip isn't too shabby.
Not bad. :icon_cool:
Removing the passenger side AQ9 gained you a tenth right there
I uploaded my videos to youtube. Not the best quality but you can somewhat see whats going on.

Midnight mayhem July 3 was pretty cool. I arrived early for part of the test n tune fun night only thing I got to do to the car was swap the bridgestone potenza tires for the Kumo escatas from my 90 to my 89, which is the only one that is set up for racing. It ended up runing 14.4 n 14.5 pretty consitant all night except a 14.8 right after a small spell of rain. Other than that a good night. I hope to get the one good video of the night up soon, I will let you guys know as soon as its up.
Nice 14.4 dude ! how was the 60, 8th and trap?
Good Job......I cant wait to race!!!
the first run was against a late 70s camero and i wasn't paying attention R/T .913, 60' 2.1, 1/8 9.198 at 75, 1000' 12.024, 1/4 14.402 at 96.77mph.
second run was by myself after the rain. it was 14.801 for the quarter. the rest not that exciting all did was spin through firs and second.
Third run was the start of the midnight mayhem R/T .905, 60' 2.139, 1/8 9.242, 1000' 12.077, 1/4 14.462 at 96.49mph
4. R/T .690, 60' 2.161, 1/8 9.225, 1000' 12.050, 1/4 14.428 at 96.81mph.
5. R/T .778, 60' 2.149, 1/8 9.308, 1000' 12.148, 1/4 14.563 at 93.10mph.
6. R/T .670, 60' 2.194, 1/8 9.312, 1000' 12.140, 1/4 14.517 at 94.08mph.
Congrats dude! I need to play catch up if i can get my shop BS figured out.
Does that track print the 1/8th mile trap speeds? If so, please post those. ;) Scan your fastest slip and I'll you to the 1/4 mile page if you want to be added.
By the way...Have you made any passes with NOTHING removed from the car for comparison?
15.5sec was my best time last years july 4th midnight mayhem the week before I blew the turbo and that was with full interior.
Another Midnight Mayhem in the books Best time for July 31 14.164 at96.22mph. Still on regular street Kumo Escata tires but I deleted the A/C this time. I got ten runs in too many to type up but I started the night out running 14.5ish for about tree runs and couldn't figure out why I was running slower than last time. Then I decided to pull the extension tube out of the air filter for my HHO generator, which ran right into the mouth of the turbo. Once that was clear then I hit the 14.1 and I was freakn ready to roll.

Nice run. You guys must have pretty good air up there at night to be running like that. I'm not even going to bother running my car again until late this year when it cools down some. Right now, it would be like running at 3,000ft+ elevation here w/ our weather. I would love to run at your track, I think mine is slightly uphill or something(my 1/8th mile traps are very similar to yours, but my 1/4 mile traps are 2-3mph lower...running full weight might have a little to do with it also).
Are you letting the car shift on it's own or are you playing with the throttle to lower shift points? Also, does your car have a sunroof?
According to his sig, the '89 he's running doesn't have a sunroof.

I didn't even pay any attention to the sig. I was thinking he had more '89's than that(maybe that's "shifter"). Jeff's old website(turbograndprix.com has expired recently) claimed the sunroof weighed 84lbs and the ac was 36lbs. If you go by the usually "100lbs = 1 tenth" logic, that would be a tenth alone...not to mention the seats, etc. he said he removed.
Early in the night I was playing with the throttle on take off because I couldn't get traction. but when I pulled that hose I just dropped the hammer and let the car do what it wanted to do. I was afraid of what could of happened but there is only one way to find things out....Do it. lol. after the 14.1 my times started to drop off because I didn't drop the pressure from the best run which was down to 23.5psi so I'm assuming that they kept heating up and increasing during each run. I might hit up Byron's drag strip in a few weeks or as soon as I get the mikey thomsons on some honey comb rims.
I was all pumped up to go to Byron dragway today and when I got there it was rained out I really wanted to try out the Mickey Thomsons ET streets guess I'll have to wait for the next test n tune or Midinight Mayhem on Sept 4 at Cordova again.
dang dude you should have a 13 second car right there. good luck! Must be that valence i sent ya
September 4th is coming quick but not quick enough not only are the Mickeys ready I just realized over the weekend that my black 90 had an adjustable wastegate.... well key word had. Sunday it went on the 89, so I am really going nuts to be back out on the track. Plus just so everyone knows I added more vids to youtube you can check out the link on the earlier post.
So what are your mods?
Nothing to excithing to report for 09-04-09 Midnight Mayhem I hit 14.1 and 14.2 for quarter mile times. I played with the adjustable wastegate some and turned too far and overboosted on two races but I did beat everyone I went against which includes: '09 V-6 Mustang, stock ecotec caviler, some pick up, a colbolt ss, 4th gen trans am, and a eagal talon. I did after getting the wastegate to a sweet spot I ended up blowing off the vacuum distribution block on the throttlebody. A little bit of string fixed that for the night. et streets did help reduce tire spin. I don't know something about last night just felt off, as far as I was expecting more. I guess I'll need to get the yellow top injectors before I get into the thirteens Ohwell.
Last Midnight Mayhem for the year 09-25-09
Not bad, at least it didn't rain. I got four runs in before the fog got too thick to safely race and they shut it down bout 1AM. I won every race. Opponents being colbolt, jetta, and a 5.0 fox body mustang. The Mustang is the only one that put up an awesome fight. last three car lengths he caught up to the back of my door so pretty close racing.
Quick question guys my Mods consist of mostly weight reduction, Topgun160 chip, and a K&N air filter and A/C delete. It hasn't been too hot out when I have raced nor humid a very mild summer, why when I was playing with the adjustable waste gate did it over boost? I did just get a boost gauge so now I can find out what I am really running for boost. Only racing I have left is the B.O.P. show at Cordova and test n tune at Byron til they shut down.
Alright Guys all of my videos are up from the Midnight Mayhems and The Byron BOP show. Still have Cordova's BOP show and I think I might Call it a season. Let me Know what You guys think. Just to fore warn you some of them are low quality night vids so remember I'm The red blob on the track.
Awesome Awesome races! What was your best time?
14.1 at 96mph
Nice run!!
So what is your setup consist of now?
sweet takin down the trans am and cobalt ss.
My plan for next year is to use my tax return to buy all the suspension parts that I have been reading about on the other posts, and port n polish my intake n heads replace the rockers and fuel injectors. I think I wanna wait on switching out the for the later gen heads n intake after I can rebuild the trans just so I don't push to hard if you know what I mean.
For now I bet you could get away with 1.6 rockers.
Not bad of numbers. You probably are at about 230whp.
I sometimes think I should stick with the gen2's, but I already committed in other plans. I might stick my 3.1 motor on a shelf rack until I find something to put it in unless I sell it... Which ever comes first.
It would be nice for next year if some of you guys that might live close to Cordova could help make a showing to bring our own front to the street racing scene. I guess thats why I like Cordova's midnight mayhem to get people off the streets and in a safe environment to race. Plus the people you are up against would be cars you would encounter on the street. Maybe by the Spring i'll have the bugs worked out of the Black 90 and do some tinkering with it so it could also be there.
Man i can't wait to send mine to the track,, grrrrrrr 3 things i want to do once i get her running right
1--- to the Track get some numbers in on here
2--- Dyno her
3--- smoke my son's 3800 with comp cam camaro so i can shut him up lol
after this no need to run this rare car
My lic plate frame reads missing 2 and still beat you <<<<<< time to prove it
Dude sounds good Hope to see another TGP holden up the home front when it comes to the track. next weekend I hope to get started with replacing my oil pump and ordering parts to start getting ready for spring.

Yea I just found a pic my friend Phil took of me at work about 9:30 in the morning after one of the Midnight Mayhem's We had to work 5hrs the Saturday after the race so I drove straight to work and set my sleeping bag on the passenger side and passed out for a few hours I think I pulled in the parking lot a 5 am or a little latter I'm always half dead after those races.

I guess that's another advantage to not having a passenger seat installed.
2010 Cordova Dragway park schedule for Midnight Mayhem: May28, July2, Sept3, (Oct9 is the BOP show) Oct15 is the final Midnight Mayhem. I know it will be a trip for some of you guys but I would like to see you there. Sept11 and 12th is Byron's BOP show.

Well I know I'm a little late on the posting but here we go... Even dealing with the fact that I was dealing with the crap from having that guy in the jeep pull out in front of me the day before race day. To that Friday I went and picked up the 89 from the shop that towed it from the scene. I had finished paying for the tow and when I went to leave, I backed into the Owner of the shops wife's Toyota Solara convertible. Talk about some real bad luck. Other than that B.S. I got to Cordova at a decent time and the races were good I lost my first one to a nice 60's Malibu or chevelle I'm not sure we were head to head most of the way but he pulled on me at the end of the track.
Run #2 was easy It was a Toyota Corolla it looked fast if that is even a statement.
Run #3 was the same Colbolt SS I raced last year and wasted him. I didn't feel too bad he was pretty cool to talked to I think he was from Peoria and has heard of the TGPs so all in all I had to cut my racing short due to the fact that I could feel the car pulling harder on the right then the left. The reason why was because the sub frame shifted back on the drivers side and forward on the right from the impact I hope its not totally bent but not too worried. The best I could do was 14.2 @ 93 ish mph I guess not bad for just taking the hit that it did.
July 2 is coming up quick and I know I don't have the time to do all I want to. I'll keep you guys posted.
Well July 2 was interesting I show up to Cordova and pay my admission. The Lady checked my my license, and realized it had been expired since my birthday which was June 1, and almost didn't get to race! Thankfully she recognized me as always being there for midnight mayhem, and allowed me to race but told me to get it renewed asap. So after clearing that hurtle I pulled in, parked, filled out my info card and for my friends to park. My buddy Aaron drove my Black TGP there giving Shifter a ride down from Beloit. Then I went through tech and got in the staging lanes. Over the loud speaker I could hear the guy talking about rules and starting to enforce them: If you are racing your shirts must have sleeves, pants not shorts (strike 2 I was wearing shorts) no flip flops, 14secs and faster must wear a helmet. So aside from a rough start. I was surprisingly able to avg my 14.1 ish in the quarter. I ran against a Fox body GT 5.0 a 99 or 00 mustang GT and one both of those. My only loss was to a supercharged Cobra ( go figure I'm not immune to snake bites yet) then my last race I blew away a power-stroke. I was happy with the car since The insurance company took so long to cut me a check, I didn't get to do any repairs or repairs. So now i have just about two months to tear down and swap motors and replace the damaged parts.
P.S. I scored a 3.4 dual overhead cam powered sub frame from Murry's junkyard this past Saturday after the races, when I went to pick up a motor for my wife's Bonneville.
Not much to report on this past Midnight Mayhem I beat a '00 mustang bullet, lost to a firebird due to major wheel spin and wheel hop ( I lost my slicks to a blow out coming back from a W-body meet, because of bad alignment and driving on them since the accident.) so I've been stuck with my kumo escatas. I lost to a z06 corvette, beet a a little hatch back honda, and smoked a powerstroke. even after taking out the stock drivers seat and putting in a baja buster off road seat my quarter mile time hasn't moved past 14.1 but on a 14.7 pass I turned a 97mph trap speed due to all the wheel spin. I just bought some Nitto drag radials off ebay for $273 free shipping I hope those will hold me over for a while. I only have one Midnight mayhem left for the season.
Nittos are good :icon_mrgreen:..........are you doing the other suspension mods?
Make sure you warm the tires and "saw" them a little.
I would like to get Judd's strut stoppers made but with other projects piling back up I will have to wait for a new season on those. What is "saw" the tires? I also have new struts for the front I haven't had time to put in as well.
This is how I did it:
1. Pull into the water in the burn out pit
2. Apply parkng brake
3. Put transmission into 2nd gear
4. Punch it to get tires spinning
5. Saw steering wheel left and right to make sure both tires are spinning
6. Release parking brake and let off gas so you dont shoot forward too much.
Make sure you dont bounce off of the rev limiter. Nittos work better when they are hot, if you do a "google" search some people look for the color of smoke coming off the tires.
I have PVC piping already cut down the middle.... if you know how big you want the stoppers, let me know ill cut em for you , you'll just have to get clamps. Couldnt be more than a couple bucks to get them to you. I can evem measure the last pair i used to help you get an idea what length is best.
Oh the sawing part I have never done before but my parking break is long been out of service but would like to get on line again soon. as far as stoppers I only have one more Event on the !5th of oct.
I have awesome news for the final 2010 Midnight Mayhem. I made 10 runs all night averaged 14.04 then I just got lucky with the run that mattered most to me check out the pick I hope you can see it.
Congrats 13.999 is still 13's. Too many people on this forum make claims with no proof of their accomplishments.
I wish I had my video camera charged up and someone to operate it. Making ten runs and only losing 3 races I was pretty happy. Now I can't wait to actually doing some real modifications instead of just weight reduction.

I ran 11.5 in the 1/4 and dynoed 420 hp
Awsome news INTRCOOl.... Congrats !! from the numbers on that slip id say that launch/ run was perfect!!!
Updated the 1/4 mile page to reflect your new time. You should get a better tune now and see how far you can take it on that alone. ;)
To be honest the launches were very hard on the car, The Nittos must not like the lower temps of fall. I wanna say it was in the mid to high 50s This past Friday night. I need new subframe bushings I know I have replaced one or to before but I might just buy all new and save the good ones for spares. I dropped air pressure down to 17psi and the car's front end would stand up then the right tire would break loose then the left then it would hook but I still tore up people that were not expecting that kind of power out of a 60* V-6. Once I get the budget worked out for next year I can start to plan out and attack it all over again I hope. Thanks for the support guys.
Congrats Matt!!! You were looking good out there!
congrats matt maybe when i get my car done we can run them together, what do u say?
If you are local I'd be up for a drive to Cordova
once I finish my car LOL
Sure thing guys Midnight Mayhem is over for the season but as soon as they post 2011 schedule. There are a bunch of funday/funnights on the weekends till the end of November if you guys want to Meet up before the snow flies.
I'm in rock island, Il so I'm only bout a 1/2 hour away. Let me know when you guys get your cars done and ready for the new season. My car is supposed to be going into the garage for the winter and getting the top end torn off and redone. I've got a new crossover ready for it and I'm looking for a bigger turbo.
By the way Ntrcool hasn't been on here but he has a new record of 13.99. Figure I'd say since I was there to see it if I get ahold of him hopefully he will post about it.
Wow bud you need to pay a little more attention and do some more reading lol thats old news.
I knew I recognized that time from awhile ago. :icon_lol:
Hey guys The 2011 Schedule for Cordova's Midnight Mayhem is: May 27th, July 1st, August 5th, September 2nd, September 30th. Hope to see anyone there. Winter has been dragingng me down I'm sure the same for some of you.
My car is far from track worthy but I'll see what I can do.
Hey guys I was doing some thinking a weed ago or so. My new job Schedule is Wed. night to Friday Night 6PM to 6AM I don't think I will be able to make ANY of the Midnight Mayhems. I think I will take it easy this year and collect my thoughts and money and take my time doing any work on my car until I know I can take time off or make up the time. So if anything I'll hit up Byron on Sat or Sundays. Plus I have always wanted to go to Black Hawk Farms Raceway and try out a course to change things up.
July first midnight mayhem I made three runs. Beat two trucks and a 6.0 GTO I horrible as far as quarter mile times my best was 14.5 humidity was high and overboosting just after take off. Plus I couldn't get the temp where I wanted either. Other than that did I mention I beat a GTO LOL. I wish I had videos but no one wanted to go with.
