Title: Huge Problem....Busted FlyWheel?!?!
Post by: blackntan on September 25, 2009, 01:37:21 AM
OK i have not been on here in ages...so i thought i would drop in and see how everything is going....well and update on my 90 black n gray interior....as you all know i put a 94 front clip....blew the stock tranny to no repairs so we bought a reg. 3.1 transmission bolted up and everything was good. just not as fast.or torquey..well me and my friend...decided to  change the tranny filter and we didn't have a tranny cooler so we went and bought one from a junk yard that look almost the same just a little skinner...well that day we decided to put it on and take it out it to see if the tranny filter worked and what not well we didnt even make it 3 blocks...wasn't beating on it or anything just a nice slow cruise well when we turned around to take it back to the storage shed we notice that it was smoking really bad behind us we made it back to the storage shed and shut her down jacked it up and we have not only a big ass hole in the tranny but when we went to start it to pull it which we did but once we put it in park something was moving around and grinding...anyways we didn't waste anytime but shut it off...we have the tranny off and come to find out that the noise that we were hearing was the flywheel it is still bolted to the crank...but it broke off and is still connected to the torque converter...what would be the cause of this...and will a reg.3.1 flywheel work...or do you know the parts store carries them for the turbo-ed motor?!?!...we don't know the cause of this....o n if anybody remembers the brake issue well its still not fixed but we have back brakes and still that passenger front is grabbing we cant get all four to work...any idea's but from what i hear is that its easier to just get the vacuum and how much work is that since we have the motor pulled so why not knock that out while we can...were getting the motor cleaned and possibly new pistons......any help guys!!!!!

What does S or F mean? and yes a standard 3.1 flex plate will work.  Did you replace the whip hose on the side that the caliper doesn't work?  Have you tried replacing the caliper itself?

Post pics!!?!!!

First, stop doing reverse burnouts, then you won't be blowing transmissions.

Second, yes a standard 3.1 flywheel/flexplate will work, they are not turbo specific.

Does fluid come out the passenger side if you crack the bleeder?

I recommend using a vacuum bleeder for the brakes, its a lot easier to get fluid and air out of the lines, really easy to use and you dont need 2 people.  about 25 bucks if you have a harbour freight anywhere near you.  another thing you should check are the sliders on the caliper brackets, if they dont spin and move in and out freely the calipers wont function properly.

You will need to use everything except wheel cylinders and calipers.
