Title: found my traction issue/ build
Post by: killinprixs on January 30, 2010, 09:44:03 PM
well , found one of my traction issues at least.  Its seems out of the 4 subframe bolts/bushings , the front take more of a beating , ex:  trans being in gear pushes rear part of subframe up into uni-body, at the same time trying to pull the front down.  When i jack the car up by unibody, the front subframe sags,  at WOT, especially with all the mods this causes serious positve camber and the car switches lanes on its own,  burnout the outsides of tire... ect.

My 5 speed having a stock diff isnt helping either but launches will definately be smoother when im done.  Currently the stage 3 clutch kit is junk, doesnt hold 4 gear from a roll, so im removing it in favor or spec stage 4- 4 puck solid 8 rivit hub/ high clamp pressure plate, car will be drag + roll race ready: ) Also converting my 3" turbo back into v band and installing electric cutout to wake up the neighbors : )

Anyways , for tackling the front subframe bushings, if the bolt spins ill have to remove front bumper/lights and cut out the top of the frame to extract the retainers correct? anyone had the pleasure of doing this?

This is a problem when we remove the cabs from diesel ford trucks. (easier to remove/rebuild engine)
The body bolt retainer sticks sometimes and spins out.
I'll try to remember and ask the diesel guy what his trick was.
You can either freeze the bolt head or get it red hot-something- and that will spin it out everytime.

When I spun out the subframe bolts on my tgp a few weeks ago they came right out so I guess i'm lucky. (1/2 in impact)

If you break or the back 2 subframe bolts spin, you'll need to cut the floor boards inside the cab.  There are small holes in the engine bay, but I found them no help to get the bolts out.

I HIGHLY suggest getting brand new subframe bolts.  I broke one when torquing to 108 ftlbs, and it sucked!

Yea new bolts for sure, i had to cut through the floor of my other tgp to get that retainer out...  what a freakin joke.
