Title: how is your TGP running today?
Post by: POPEYEZTGP on February 11, 2010, 06:00:46 PM
Just thought i would talk about how our TGP's are running today , And when i say running im not talking about track time, and how often you drive it?

I'll start off by saying i love this car , been having alittle trouble with it lately just driving around seems it runs ok NOt perfect , i step on the gas and it spits like a plug wire was off, BUT this morning OMG that thing ran great stepped on the gas and the front of the car came up (not off the ground ,lol) and that baby flew i had to hold the wheel it was really pulling hard,, i let it set for 30 min, and back to it's old self,,

I really hate my TGP to the point where Im installing a 5 speed and a new motor in her.  Im only going to hate her more when its done so why bother.  Naw, well at least before I blew 3rd on the auto and blew the motor it was all good and a blast to drive.

Runs like a top, even better now with a heated o2. Drive the car 2-5 times a week. Unless there's snow on the ground so Im really missing it right now.
I uploaded some videos to youtube, theres a 0-80 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSEdN3HhMMw and a 0-100 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZZ2S81Ekx0
The new Fuzions can still just barely hold the road.
Need to replace a boot on a halfshaft and really need a new exhaust.

since I finally found a job, I'll be pulling the 5 speed back down so that I can install my new stage 3 6-puck spec clutch, as well as finally get to those yellow top fuel injectors. Everything else is doing great.

Worked on the TSTE for a few hours today.  Got rid of the ford injectors and installed a set of accell 24's I had from before...........purrs like a kitten.   Went to change the oil (3 years old) to find out the the oil pan drain bolt is stripped in the pan and there is a 1 inch dent where it looks like someone tried to jack up the car by its oil pan.

if you get them make sure they are the newer type with the 3 holes for fuel to come out of insted of the pintle type injectors.  My other TSTE has thos ein it and it seems to work just fine.

Bought mine in September. It was in storage the last 5 years. Fixed the brakes, got it registered and legal. Then put it away for the winter.  :icon_sad: I need to put new tires on it in the spring and then there are dozens of small things it needs. I can't wait to drive it. It was running real good and breezed through emissions before I put it away.

HAHA motor smokes when it idles to long. tranny slips in every gear but second. Other then that it runs great in second. Hoping to find a W-body with a 5 speed for cheap this spring. I hate automatics.

For starters My black 90 Is my daily driver it idles high on first start up because I keep forgetting to re learn the Idle. It runs damn good for need to re gap the spark plugs I can't go WOT. I could use a new torque converter but all in all not bad.

The 89 street racer is sitting under snow but will still fire and run. It is developing a knock so in a few weeks I'll pick up an oil pump to take care of that. Then I need to start picking up parts for the race season coming up.

The other three of mine are resting peacefully in the back yard and in storage.

Well the black TGP blew out the oil seal on the compressor side of the turbo. A few days later it puked a fuel pump. After that it left me sitting on the side of the road. Had it towed to the shop and it fired right up.  :gr_guns:   Did some trouble shooting and after a few hours I came to the conclusion that the atmel eeprom was crapping out. Soldered in a new one and all is good so far. I still am not sure what I am going to do about the stock t25 oil leak. It's a simple fix for me but why not replace the entire unit with something more suitable for the car...   :flamingdevil:    Right before she started having all these problems I had a set of Goodyear Eagel F1's mounted and balanced on all 4 corners...  They do not hook at all. My worn out BFG's did a much better job...

The red TGP is all good and has been in the garage keeping warm next to the black one. I plan on doing some other things to her when it warms up outside. I did race an Audi A8 with AWD. It had a cat back with a few minor mods. He pulled me off the line but by the time I hit drive I was at his door and he was like WTF!! I ended up about a car length ahead of him before we let out of it. He followed me to the gas station to check out the car, he had never seen one. Needles to say he was impressed...

Changed out my turbo from the one that was on the car.. The one on the car had a blown seal and was causing various boost pressure.. Changed it out and WOW.. OMG this is a totally different car.. 12 PSI of BOOST and Banging gears is sooooo fun.. I gotta change out my clutch for a stocker as the Stage 3 is too harsh and causing alot of problems.. I have a bent dog bone mount thats on the core support.. :icon_rolleyes: Fun Fun Fun car that im using to DD right now until i get this  other GP ready for DD'ing

So my o2 sensor was bad. It was hardly crossing 2-5 times a second. My new ones does over 20 a second. Mileage is up. And I used this awsome huge rolly IBM computer thing from the 80's and did a Forced Idle Relearn. Wow, it make a BIG difference, I just COULD NOT get this thing to freakin learn its idle, this GM computer forced it to, did 100% IAC, 2500 RPMs, then 60% 40% 30% 24% 22% 19% then it was at exactly 800 RPMs on the scantool. And it catches the RPMs super fast at start up and no more driving itself.

Its been stored since Sept 09, Sad to say the battery was no good anymore but I hooked up the cables and it snapped right off. Sounded amazing! My DD is a Ford SHO and is not boosted so I got pretty excited when I reved it up and heard the turbo spool. =) Cant wait to get it out on dry road!

Hasn't run for about a year and a half now.  Good motor had the cam go flat, put a stock one in, it had a nut in one of the cylinders so its just sat.

Lookin more and more like the big turbo and any goodies will be coming out and the car sold, pretty sad the big turbo is worth about as much as the car  :icon_neutral:

The 89 is still running awsome Just came from Polo to Jefferson and I did roll over 200,000miles a couple of days after the U.S. 41 meet. I hope the swap meet goes good. The black 90 you would have to ask Shifter hes had for a few months. Last I heard has a slight oil leak and coolant leak but over all pretty good.

The highest mileage one I've documented so far had 268,000 on it. If it's still around, it's probably nearing 300K.

NO!  Don't ever use any of Lucas' products for "quick fixes".

Why?  I dont necessarily use them as quick fixes but use a majority of their products in my vehicles.

Every case I've seen their trans fix used, the transmission fails completely afterward, so I'd be extremely leery to use it in my own vehicles.

As for their other products, such as the oil stabilizer, it causes foaming of the oil, which is very bad for lubrication.  Check it out: http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm

I would check to confirm that you're not dealing with a misfire under load condition.  What is the condition of your plugs and wires?  Make sure none are damaged or grounding out somewhere.

Hmm never thought of a misfire, There Napa Belden Wires, the exspensive ones, and factory AC delcos gapped at .035. It really feels like a shudder from the converter, Il be pulling 3rd, then it its overdrive, then suddenly shudddddeeeerr then lockup
