Title: My car sucks!
Post by: barto on December 06, 2002, 03:17:02 AM
I have a 91 Grand Prix 3.1 I installed a Cone air filter and two Flowtech Raptor mufflers, an APC aluminum wing(doesn't help in the 1/4 mile) and I took it for a test at the 1/4 mile and it did 18.80 at 63mph  ! here in Guadalajara we are at 1500 meters (don't know how much it is in feet). I was thinking on making other mods, but this gives me second toughts.

The engine and tranny are fine it doesn't smoke or shake or anything. Is this normal?

which mods do you guys recomend to improve this? the guys in www.naparts.com have a hypertech chip and thermostat but I don't know if it'll do any good.

there is only 1 good alternative your case NOS! run a 75 shot and  you should be running 15's! other than that unless you spend some $$$ 3.1L and auto coupled to  3100lbs+ is not good for drag racing.  5-speed swap!!!!!

The cheapest thing to do at first is to lose weight.  Do you go over 150mph often??  If not then a good place to start losing weight is with the wing

i don't know what the hell is wrong with your car but mybe you should put a cone or K&n air filter in and get the hypertech chip only bad side of chip is it just takes gas in fast. :?

you can do a junkyard turbo swap like i'm doing.  i've probably only spent $600 on TGP parts to put directly onto my '91 n/a 3.1, and that includes an extra TGP intercooler i ended up with.  i still need to get the T-25 turbo (deal pending) and a 2-bar MAP, gauges and a few other things like good oil pump, head gaskets etc....  a turbo 3.1 'kit' can cost under $1000 easy, altho the parts are used.  as far as the engine goes, that's a whole other deal.  i'm going to turbocharge my 185,000 mile 3.1 without doing ANY rebuilding - just some gasket changes and a new oil pump.  i don't expect it to last long at all even if i keep it at 5lbs of boost  :) :)  3.1's are easy to come across anyway, and it's all in good fun.  but yeah.... do a 5-speed swap, turbocharge it and let 'er rip!
