In the TGP's, is it a common thing for the cluster to stop working correctly? Also is it a wiring harness issue, or is it the actual cluster itself? My speedo and rpm gauges are both ridiculously high, but consistently high. And my oil pressure gauge freaks out pretty often. My gas gauge and turbo gauge are the only ones that work correctly. Thanks for any answers on this post.
yea these clusters are junk. Surprised you dont have the flickering check gauges and low fuel light too. My gas gauge is the only one that works poorly as well as the speedo reading a few mph higher than the HUD. Somebody on here might have another one. Even brand new ones have popped up on ebay before. I think some people have had good luck sending them off to a company and having them rebuilt. Youd have to search around.
Yeah I actually do have the check gauges light going on and off randomly. And I have my antilock light flashing too. But that's a whole different problem.
My check gauges flickered when i got the car. Theres a little set of pins you resolder and it fixes it. Its on the w-body.com site. But all the gauges being off is somthing that only an electronics shop can recalibrate or what ever they do
there was a write-up on how to fix both the spedo and the flickering fuel/check gauges light on w-body, but they just redid it and I don't know if its still there.
Alright thanks a lot guys. I'll do some more research and find out what I can do to fix everything
Post up any fixes you do make. I know my gauges are everything except accurate.
For the time being I changed out my cluster for a normal GP sport cluster. it is all plug and play. I just took it apart and put my whole odometer assembly in it. You have to remove and re-solder the little wiring harness pigtail on the top to the new cluster so the HUD works.
I fixed the check gauges and fuel lamps on it while I had it apart, and for once my speed and tach are right on. I miss the little INTERCOOLED TURBO thing on it, but having a battery gauge is nice as the boost gauge is basically worthless.
I've rebuilt two clusters, using basic clusters and putting these parts in the TGP cluster. This, combined with soldering of the broken contacts fixes them well.
GPChief-
Can you explain w/ a little more detail how you did that? What clusters did you use, etc.?
Thanks

I took my TGP cluster, and a regular GP cluster both apart on a table. IIRC the speedometer pulls right out I just swapped them. I then found the break in the connection for the check engine lights and took a pencil tip soldering iron and fixed it. There is a detailed write up on w-body.com.
