Title: I want to put in a different coolant overflow tank...
Post by: tweety25 on April 21, 2010, 04:52:43 PM
Ok so I've seen people put in a different coolant tank out of a cutlass supreme, so I picked one up from the junk yard and i'm not sure how they made it fit. Anyone know how to do it...or know what I'm talking about? Lol Thanks for any replies

Here is a few pics that I had laying around from Autoramma and a small photo shoot. You can see the bolt location on the brace. Also you could use a self tapping screw to hold the back part of the tank. Me I was lazy and have yet to add the self tapping screw. Also the Autoramma pics were curiosity of my 6yo Daughter.

I've driven almost 20k miles with my new style tank held in solely with the brace bolt.

were there any mods you guys had to do to the car? and what car did you take the tank out of exactly?

That tank is in 1991-1993 W-bodies. I think I trimmed the plastic tabs off of the electrical center that sits in the same area so that my coolant bottle would sit perfectly if I remember correctly. Other than that, I don't remember having to do any other modifications to get it on there. It's up to you whether you want to add a bolt or stud to the strut tower to hold the rear of the bottle like they were held in the later cars. I haven't added anything there and mine has been installed for a year or longer with no issues. The one bolt in the cross brace holds it well enough...
