Title: Found!!! 89 TGP in Junkyard
Post by: 89BlackTGP on April 26, 2010, 06:19:33 PM
So today i decided to go to the yard with steve (swift13) and i found a TGP.. PM3 was gone already.. I ended up grabbing from it the Eprom,Turbo,X-over,Vaccum Clip (not for sale), Gauge cluster, charger pipe coupling and clamps.. I also walked around and found a Valance from a 91-93.. Grabbed that too.. $132.00 out the door.. Im going back tomorrow since i took the day off and grabbing the rear manifold, Passenger fender, Leather seat skins, and Misc things from it.. If anything is needed LMK cuz tomorrow is really the only day ill be going back to get things and i have the day off becasue of this TGP.. :icon_rolleyes: :icon_mrgreen:

Turbo is like NEW.. no shaft play in or out and no side to side..  X-over is totally junk the one end isnt even connected anymore the heatshield is holding it in.. Good canidate for a rebuild..

If shipping didn't kill, I'd ask for the front bumper cover... was it in nice shape and tight up against the headlights?

It sits good by the headlights.. The lower part of the bumper where the valance bolts to is sagging..

Wonders if it really was a PACE CAR?  How about getting the VIN to someone to verify.

Same car was posted about here: http://www.tgpforums.com/index.php/topic,2355.0.html
There was never any documentation produced for that car saying it was a pace car. If you could get me the actual build date off the bottom of that sticker since it's not visible to me in the picture...I would maybe have a better idea. I'm almost thinking at the moment that the actual Daytona cars were pre-production vehicles.

If you can, get me the more specific date at the bottom of the ASC sticker. It will be in "month/day/year" format instead of just "month/year" like the date at the top of it.

double checked and the sticker was worn a bit by that date.. all i could make out is a 5.. so i can assue 5-5-89 or 5-15-89 or 5-25-89.. the sticker wasnt too healthy to begin with.

I also looked at the rear quarters and they did at on time have the nascar stickers on the rear quarters so this car at one point had more stickers than it does now..

Thanks for trying. ;) If the car was built that late, I don't see any way it could be an actual pace car considering the race was run on February 19th, 1989.

The 1989 NASCAR Winston Cup Season began February 12 and ended November 19. IIRC the TGP and the TTA were both utilized for the entire season. I would half to agree with Matt, I am pretty sure all the pace cars were built in late 88 and early 89 but who really knows,  :dunno:  It may have been a Days Of Thunder car... My 1989 was built in 2-89. No paperwork saying it was a pace car but I do have paperwork from Pontiac saying it was at Bristol, Richmond, Darlington, etc...

A guy on the board used to have a Days of Thunder car and it was built either very late '89 or in the early months of 1990.
