Title: Overboosting ?
Post by: Mike J. on December 07, 2002, 07:42:01 PM
My car has just started loosing accelleration when I am pushing maximum booste.  It pulls great then I observed it runs into higher than stock booste limit 7.5psi and then looses most of power at say 9-10 psi for a few seconds.
Is this the notorious fuel shutoff on over boost.  My cars have never done this even when I had a K&N on the turbo, but had moved it to the end of the stock turbo inlet hose.  I would rather not have to limit my foot or else risk the car stalling on me at an inopertune time, like when putting someone in there place.  Oppinions please. :?

If the check engine light doesn't accompany the shutdown, then no its not the boost cutoff. But you say it looses power for a few seconds, which does sound like the boost cutoff. The BC will shut off the fuel for about 10 seconds and illuminate the SES light. Could be a boost control problem from loose connections or a bad boost actuator.

Other than that I would check maintenece items, plugs wires fuel filter. Especially the fuel filter. Also might want to check fuel pump pressure.
