I was told that the socket I need to remove the brake pressure switch in my PM3 is the same size and part # as the brake pressure switch from PM3 systems used in Buick GN's. With this info, can I make the jump and conclude that a Brake Pressure Switch from a GN will also work on our cars? Does anyone know anything about this? Thanks in advance! I did finally find and buy a socket. maybe I will even feel like working on the car soon! Provided I can find a new switch!
Those pressure switches from the GN/older powermasters will not work. They might be the same physical size, but they are rated at lower pressures than ours. Our PMIII operates at higher pressures than those and there's really nothing that will directly interchange except a pressure switch from another PMIII unit. If you search around online, you should be able to find a few vintage parts sites that list the pressure switches still, but you will need to call them to confirm that they have any before ordering.
I found a socket on ebay. So now I have 3 choices. Use the old switch I know nothing about out of my old core pmIII, I found a new switch for $225. Yeah thats right, $225! Plus shipping. :icon_eek: Third choice is just buy another rebuilt pmIII unit for $450. Then at least I would have an extra accumulator and all the other spare parts a full unit would bring with it. Decisions decisions. There is nothing cheap about this car!
So I ended up buying a completely rebuilt pmIII unit AGAIN. He had 3 for sale, I almost bought them all. Probably buy another in a few weeks. Guess I am planning on keeping this car awhile.............. :laugh:
