Title: General thoughts on my TGP
Post by: manifoldsrme on June 28, 2010, 04:18:27 PM
This car has been a pain in my ass from day one. With that said, I am still making progress. I found out that if I brake a little sooner and don't smash the pedal my brakes work just fine after installing a rebuilt pm3. If I drive like I normally would in any other car, which I admit is aggressive, the pump sticks on and I lose brakes. It happened to me twice, but I have driven it a few hundred miles now "gently" and it seems to work fine. The car stops well, I guess I was the problem.  :icon_redface: I still have no odometer or speedometer and the HUD reads zero. I bought the correct VSS, but when I went to change it it did not look like it would interchange, looked just a little different. That pisses me off.

When I first start it, it runs AWESOME. As it starts to warm up and when it is warmed up, it start hesitating and running like a pig. If I light throttle it and gradually get into it, it runs pretty strong. If I just hammer it, it stutters and goes nowhere. I haven't changed anything on the drivetrain yet. I want to do the basics, plugs wires, and injectors. It is not high on my list because it runs well at times, and breezes through emissions, so I really doubt its issues are there. Do these symptoms sound like the stock tune? Maybe a chip would help it out? Also, it stalls occasionally, completely randomly, VERY irritating! And dangerous. I looked at the crossover, and it looked new, and not like a stock unit. But I will have to investigate that more sometime.

The gauges are nowhere near accurate, the driver side window sticks on the way down and sounds like a machine gun going off, and I have had a hard time finding any of the parts I want and need. Yep, been a great car so far.  :icon_lol:

I have a few other toys and the TGP was a complete impulse buy because I had never seen another when I found it. It had sat for 5 years, and with all the issues it has / had, it is amazing it actually daily drives right now. At least it seems to be reliable, finally. God knows how many hours, days, hopefully weeks that lasts. But I think it should run so much better than it does. I am also on the lookout for a parts car. I need a lot of interior stuff. If I could just get it to be a solid runner I would be a lot more enthusiastic about getting it painted etc. For what I have already, and plan to throw at it money wise, I might as well just keep it. The holes deep, might as well keep digging! Any other daily drivers left around and do they give you the same grief and issues?
