My name is Brian and I am restoring my 1990 TGP. I have not taken it down the strip and I have no real intention of doing so. Drag racing a FWD car just seems................ counter productive to the laws of physics. :icon_confused:
So why am I posting here? Because I am very familiar with bracket racing. I love it. I have been doing it for 24 years and 16 of them were religiously without missing a single race. Every weekend I was running for points in the NHRA sanctioned pro class. In my tenth year I was fortunate enough to put together a season to remember and made 6 finals winning 4 of them to win the track championship at Rocky Mountain Raceways.
Where I live currently it is a 1 1/2 hour drive to the nearest track, so I only get to go a couple times a year. I currently race at Lebanon Valley, NY when I get a chance. I have won a few Wednesday night street races the last couple years, and last May I was fortunate enough to win Hemmings Musclepalooza XI for my bracket. That was awesome! Anyway, thought I would finally post in here and below are some pics of my trophies and a video of one of my Wednesday night wins in my bone stock 1985 IROC. :icon_cool:

The first 3 runs are time trials, then it's eliminations.

15+ sec runs? It doesn't matter if McLaren broke physics and created a wormhole somewhere, a TGP with a chip beats those kinds of runs fairly easily.
Don't let the man (Issac Newton) keep you down. We aren't a part of his system.
It's bracket racing. It's all about consistency! As I said, this is just fun times now. When I was serious I had a dedicated race car and a trailer. 1980 z28 with a supercharged 406 sbc running 11.60's.
I could care less about having a fast car anymore. Yawn. I'm not as young as most on here and have done everything speed wise many times over that you guys are currently trying to do. :icon_razz:

Well, I prefer storming up Pikes Peak virtually and dying to death 100 times until I beat the IRL record by more than a minute, rather than just make it up in one try.
To each their own. I prefer getting in a real car, cutting real lights and deciding if I have to dump my competitor at the line to win a real race. No video game has ever given me anything close to the satisfaction that going 6 rounds for a win has. I enjoy the competition. I really don't care about the car so much or it's speed. The car is just a tool used to compete.
Maybe someday when I get my tgp running top notch I may take it down the strip. Maybe.
i KNEW that was Lebanon Valley... im like 25 minutes from there! Should meet up there next spring!
Also people, if you arent dropping your front tire pressure down significantly, your TGP will just spin. Run about 33-35 driving around, get to the track, drop down to about 15 and it will hook, i dont car what turbo you're running.
Alright. I am definitely going back for Musclepalooza next year and I always make a few other races a year.
Nice trophies, sounds like a passionate hobby. Thanks for sharing.
TGP's arent bad at the track. Lighten em up, stickey tires on front, skinney tires on back, a chip, bigger injectors, an exhaust dump, and you have quite a good start.
I miss my 89 Camaro RS, I still have my 69 Camaro. But I just need a diferent type of speed. I am thinking about getting into Auto X, or maybe some kind of rally. Precision driving is what I want to get into now.
Thanks for sharing that with us Brian. Although I have never done any bracket racing I do enjoy taking my 3rd gen down the track. :icon_twisted:
