Title: 2010 Volvo XC90
Post by: GPChief on December 04, 2010, 06:07:58 AM
After my wife ran into a curb tearing the wheel off (Colorado winters :icon_eek:) we decided to get a new car.  The wife asked what is one of the safest cars out there, I said Volvo. Next thing I know the wife has me getting her a Power of Attorney (understand I am stationed in Italy currently) to get a XC90.

After a lot of reading I'm sort of looking forward to getting home and driving it.

Just thought Id share.

~$40k-$50k and less than 20MPG doesn't sound like my cup of tea.

Lets see.......
A. Keeping wife and children safe - priceless
B. 2005 Chrysler town and country that was wrecked - Miles Per Gallon City: 17 - 19 MPG, Highway: 23 - 26 MPG (I never saw more than 21 MPG)
C. Free Maintenance and fluid changes for 5 years (as part of buying a new car)
D. Free shipping world wide (good for me since I now live in Italy)
E. Cheap insurance
F. Numerous safety awards
G. Its the 3.2 V6
H. Keeping Wife and Daughters Happy - Truly Priceless!!

I respect your opinion, to each his/her own.

I personally have owned a few volvos.

My 965 was a champ and was slow.  Repairs were cheap and easy while interesting at times.  Gas mileage was ok.  City 14/20hwy.  Insurance was cheap and didn't have to worry about someone wanting to take it.

My 850 "R" wagon is my favorite so far as owning one.  The repairs are fairly easy and not too costly but I have had to replace most of the interior due to cracking or lifting (cali car) .  I netted 18/27 pre nods.  Post mods 15/26.  Insurance is again cheap and the car has great styling for a brick.

There were a few others, but those are my top previous picks.

Hth...  I say go for it!
