I'm wanting to get a RU-1390 cone, but I've heard horror stories (as well as become aware of the illegality) of just putting a crankcase breather on to replace the hose to the air filter box. Mfew in particular says to route a hose from the valve cover to the inlet, but I don't know how and what with.
If it involves a lot of "crafting" or new materials, I'll just see how expensive it is to get a drop-in through K&N's custom program, since they don't make drop-ins for the Turbo Grand Prix, and leave the hose alone.
If your talking about the tube that comes off of your front valve cover that is just a breather tube. Your PCV is between the plenum and the lower intake or is connected to the plenum and is located on the rear valve cover. Just remember not to over think and keep up with questions.
Yes, sorry, I meant the breather tube.
So, umm, do you have any information on how to do this, and possibly more on the equipment in general, or are you just here to correct my title? :icon_confused:
I am not sure what your concern is. I removed all the junk factory air intake tubing on mine, put on the k&n filter, threw a breather in the valve cover and called it a day. Seems to run fine, better actually. Are you afraid of wiping the valve cover down every now and then because of a tiny bit of blowby or something? I think you are over thinking this as well. What exactly is your concern? Sounds like you want to make this mod way more complicated than it needs to be. No offense meant and please don't take it wrong. Maybe I am not understanding your concern? What are these horror stories you speak of? Mine sure seemed to be a huge improvement by just throwing a breather in. The real horror story is the factory setup.
Agreed, just throw a breather on there. Thats why they make them. I got mine at autozone for cheap

I don't care about how dirty the engine bay gets. What I'm concerned about is getting into some situation with the police which involves inspection, and that if they were to notice a little breather filter replacing the PCV system which Alabama law has three separate provisions against, then I would be fined for it.
Obviously, this isn't a concern at all for anyone else, so why should I be?
Well, if the emissions police were that anal then your different filter would be a much bigger problem than the breather. Don't worry. The K&N filter has a C.A.R.B. approval certificate number and is perfectly legal. As is the breather. If you are really worried just keep your stock setup and throw it on before inspection. Takes 5 minutes to do. 10 if your slow.
Your PCV is on the opposite side. The valve cover on the front is not connected to it in any way.
The police aren't going to look under your hood, unless you're caught smuggling drugs or something. Does Alabama even have emissions inspections? I would assume if they do, it's only in very densely populated areas(that's how it is in GA). If you have emissions or inspections, reinstall the stock airbox for the inspection if you're worried about it.
Scroll through this thread and find GOT2B GM's post: http://www.tgpforums.com/index.php?topic=4581.0 He has a picture of how he routed his with a K&N filter installed. Besides the way he did it, you could also put a fitting in the end cap of the filter. That's what I did on my black car. I have one 90* fitting in my valve cover & another in the end-cap of the filter along with hose attaching the two.
