Ok,
Next trial in the world of TGP chip tuning is better injectors and better flowing heads. I want to find a set of GEN III heads that I can put on the flow bench and see what we get. What models, years and makes of GM motor do I need to look for to get GEN III heads? Any specific markings on the heads that will be a sure GEN III head?
Thanks peoples!! 8)
Any '94 and newer 3.1 / 3.4 liter engine...
the newer W-bodies have them.. heheh
I've got a set if your looking for some..
There was a set on ebay a while ago for like $20 or something.
I'm working on porting a set for my Cutlass right now. The heads are cast faily clean to begin with, so there isn't much cleanup to do. I just removed some of the ridges, the short radius turn ridges, and smoothed them out a little. I finished sanded the ports with 80 grit, and I may polish the exhaust side...not sure yet.

I heard polishing the exhaust side doesnt benefit you...
Nah, polishing the exhuast side is A-OK. Most of the time it doesn't matter if you polish or not, because once a layer of carbon builds up on the surface the port design is more important. But the benefit of polishing is that it takes more time for the carbon to build up. And any help for the exhaust side on a turbo car is good (although some may say it's a waste of time).

make sure itsa 3100 and not a 3.1L! I just found a 95 gp 4dr sunroof grey leather fully optioned with 3100 of course for $1500. I test drove it and It drive perfect. all it needs is a windshield :D !
Two questions: Do they even fit? Also, are the heads the main difference between the gen1 and the gen3? Or are there other reasons for the 35 hp difference? Thanks
It's the intake manifolds too. You need the upper and lower intake manifold from a 3100/3400 along with the Gen III heads. The Gen III head won't bolt up to a Gen II head without a lot of custom fabrication [lots of money].
So you buy the manifolds for intake as well and then it fits. Does this bring about a significant hp increase?
I don't think the exhaust manifolds would fit without modification for the cross-over pipe.
so if one were to get gen 3 heads, intake manifold and plenium from a 3100, they could go on the 3.1 turbo block? And the exhaust manifolds won't match up?
From gen II heads...thats us...to III gen head swap...you'll need to:
1.get some Gen III heads /and valve covers(sh*t)
2.Upper and lower intake with the fuel rails, wires and all sensors.
3.Fab new turbo pipe from TB to inter cooler
4.Get custom made push rods.
5.Chop your exhaust manafold flinges off ,, weld on flinges from the gen III exhaust manafolds and port to fit. Then resurface.
6. rewire all sensors and have fuel hose adapters made or new hoses made.
7 figure out if any bracket issues will arise with the new setup...IE alternator mounts, PS pump.
Sounds easy don't it... And no, its not in order..its a list..somewhat.
I'll do a 98 3100 swap w/a t4 swap ...thank you verry much. LOL. Na not really.
Isn't Jeff M working on a project like this?
