so my TGP daily driver is now having some issues. the car was running fine for the past months. in the last few days. the car would start hard, taking 5-10 seconds instead of the normal 2-3. this was day one of the isues. day two: car would only start if you turn it over for 20+ secs and pump the gas. once the car fires up it puffs black to blue to white smoke for 5 secs, then smoke clears and car will idle with some fluctuation between 500-1500 pry. Car will idle, mechanically sounds fine with a mis-fire. So my first thought was to check spark. theres newer plugs and wires so i checked the coil packs, they were all firing bright blue... next thought is fuel issue although i put a walbro in just 12 months ago.... I will fuel pressure test tonight.... any other thought or next diagnoses ideas???
Sounds like you might have a fuel injector that is leaking, or a fuel diaphram leaking into the vacume lines.
You are spot on. I had a chance to check fuel pressure. it went upto about 45 then the pump turns off and the psi drops. We also assumed injector or fuel pressure regulator. We pulled the fuel rail off, leaving the injectors in and turn the key to on position and gas started spraying out of the vac hose, thus a bad regulator or diaphragm...
Luckily I have a spare TGP engine with yellow top injectors....... So now I am running the yellow top injectors in there with a stock pressure regulator, stock chip and walbro high pressure pump :icon_rolleyes: I am wondering if this it my issue, Do i need to upgrade my presure regulator.... I plan to have my top gun chip back in there again soon..... I was running a topgun160, no cat, walbro pump, yellow tops for a while til i dented my oil pan... then i was running stock chip, no cat, walbro pump, stock injectors ( this when my problems happened) other thoughts I put about 5,000 miles on the first setup, then 3,000 on the second when it went bad. is this because the combo of stock and upgrade???
in any case i plan to rechip the car but am wondering if the stock pressure regulator should be upgraded? any thoughts?
Stock fuel pressure regulators will work just fine.
