Title: What ECUs are TGP combatible??
Post by: jongrappin on April 14, 2011, 03:10:10 PM
I did some reading and more or less i see i need a 730 or 727 i do not know what these come in but would assume a 2.8 or 3.1? What i would like to know is exact models and years as i want to start tuning more of these? is it something simple like Any W-body with a 2.8 or 3.1 in the years or 89-92 will work?

The 7727 is the only plug and play ecu for the TGP platform.  The 7730 will work but the connectors are different between the two.  The 7727 style ecu can also be found in the early 90's Corvette...

I don't know specific numbers, but I thought that most OBD I ECMs will work as long as you swap the blue chip?  I used an ECM out of a 90 GP 3.1 with no issues after swapping the chip.

a 16149396 from a 91-93 3.4 or 93-94 3.1 W-body has the exact same connectors/pinout as a 1227727 and will drop in with no modifications whatsoever.

a 1227730 or 1227749 will also work, assuming you want an in-cabin ECM, but as stated, connectors as different.

So... the following work as built in replacements:

TGP ECM Part No: 1227727

GP ECM PArt No: 16149393 is compatible (comes from 91-93 GP 3.4L or 93-94 GP 3.1L W-Bodys)

What ECMs have the same circuitry but different Epprom??
(I am looking to get ECMs and burn TGP Epprom Chips for them, Then sell the complete ECM chipped for a TGP, instead of selling just the chip that needs soldering in)

As for the corvette replacement with part nos: 1227730 or 1227749
this does not seem to be a viable option as the ECM is most likely expensive and rare, as well as different connectors and wiring, and relocation......

I live in Michigan and there and tons of w-bodys and GM vehicles here so if i know the years, such as above, i should be able to get a pile of these ECMs and start programing and tuning them and should be able to sell at a very reasonable price for those who need a complete ecm that simply bolts in.

ANY 1227727 is exactly the same as any other 1227727, whether it came from a corvette, lumina or TGP, they're all exactly the same inside and out.

MEMCALs are platform, engine and option specific.

the 1227730 ECM was never used in a corvette, it was used in nearly every other platform except for W-bodies that had a 60V6. the 1227749 is more or less identical to a 1227730, except it has different injector drivers, ones that are meant to withstand 6 low impedance injectors, compared to the 2 that a normal 1227730 will drive reliably.

Would the corvette ecu help with my ford yellow top injectors? or are they not low independence.

read again, all 1227727s are exactly the same, you have a 1227727, the 90-91 L98 corvettes have the exact same 1227727.

the yellow tops are high impedance anyways, unless you're running more than 8 of them then it's not an issue.
